The Constitution of Vienna is the city-state constitution of the Austrian state of Vienna.

The current constitution was enacted on 15 October 1968, passed by the Municipal Council and Landtag of Vienna. [1]

History

The Constitution of Vienna has been amended 42 times since 1968. [2]

On 10 November 2020, there was a celebration of the history of the constitution on the 100th anniversary of the preceding constitution. [3]

Structure and content

The constitution defines 23 districts for the be city to be administered through. [4]

The constitution allows for referendums. [5]

Vienna's city council has the status of a state parliament. [6]

Renate Holm was a German-Austrian film actress and operatic soprano. She worked as a dentists' assistant and took private singing lessons, resulting in performances in musical films and schlager. She made her debut at the Vienna Volksoper in 1957, and moved on to the Vienna State Opera where she worked for decades. She appeared internationally and made many recordings, especially for the WDR in a series of operettas with conductor Franz Marszalek. She later worked as a voice teacher, juror at competitions, and festival manager. Her memoir was published in 2017.

The Landtag of Lower Austria is the state parliament of the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It exercises the state legislation (legislature). The seat of the Landtag is in St. Pölten in the Landhausviertel.

Theodor Öhlinger was an Austrian constitutional scholar and educator. Öhlinger was a member the Austrian Constitutional Court from 1977 to 1989 and a professor of constitutional and administrative law at the University of Vienna from 1974 to 2007. From 1999 until his death, he served as the deputy chairman of the board of trustees of the Vienna Museum of Art History. Öhlinger published 23 books and more than 350 scholarly articles and appeared as a frequent commentator on legal issues in the Austrian news media. Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen called him Austria's "operating system" during the turbulent times of May 2019.

Karl Korinek was an Austrian constitutional scholar and educator. Korinek taught law at the University of Graz, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, the University of Vienna, and the University for Continuing Education Krems. In 1978, Korinek was appointed to the Austrian Constitutional Court; he served as the president of the court from 2003 until his retirement in 2008.
