Copa Conecta is a Mexican football competition organized by the FMF that was established in 2021 as the cup tournament for clubs in the third and fourth levels of Mexican football.

Contents

The cup is played by 32 clubs: 12 from the Liga Premier (third level) and 20 from the Liga TDP (fourth level). [1]

The cup was created in 2021 with the aim of providing a greater opportunity for the development of football players from Liga Premier and Liga TDP clubs.

Competition format

32 clubs play in the cup: 12 from the Liga Premier and 20 from the Liga TDP. The twelve Liga Premier representatives are those that occupied the first 12 positions in the Apertura Tournament of the Serie B. [2]

The 20 clubs in the Liga TDP are the 17 group leaders from the first half of the season and the three clubs with the best coefficient. [3]

The tournament consists of five stages: [4]

The matches are played in a single round in the field of the club participating in the TDP League, in case the two clubs play in the same league, the match will be played in the field of the best ranked team. If there is a tie at the end of regular time, a round of penalty kicks will be played to determine the winner. [4]

Geographic location is the criteria for matches. The affiliated clubs of Liga MX and Liga de Expansión MX can participate in the cup but only with the players who were registered in the squads for Liga Premier and TDP. [4]

Liga Premier is the third level professional division of Mexican football. Formerly known as Segunda División de México (1950–2017). It has 49 participating clubs, divided into two divisions. They compete from the fall to spring each season, promotion and relegation between each group, and promotion to Liga de Expansión MX and relegation to Liga TDP within the league system.

The Mexican football league system is organized by the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), except for the Liga MX and the Liga de Expansión MX, which are organized independently; The league system consist of six professional divisions.

Liga TDP is the fourth level professional division of Mexican football. Formerly known as Tercera División de México (1967–2017). It has 225 participating clubs, divided into 17 regional groups by geographic location. In the 2009–10 season, the format of the tournament has been reorganized to a home and away format, which all teams will play in their respective group. The 17 groups consist of teams which are eligible to play in the liguilla de ascenso for three promotion spots, teams which are affiliated with teams in the Liga MX, Liga de Expansión MX and Liga Premier, which are not eligible for promotion but will play that who the better filial team in a sixteen team filial final phase tournament for the entire season.

Club de Fútbol Pachuca is a Mexican professional football club based in Pachuca, Hidalgo, that plays in Liga MX, the top division of Mexican football. Founded in 1892 as Pachuca Football Club, then changed its name to Pachuca Athletic Club in 1895, and was refounded in 1960 under its current name. Liga MX, officially known as Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional division of Mexican football. Formerly known as Liga Mayor (1943–1949) and then as Primera División de México (1949–2012). It has 18 participating clubs, the season is divided into two short tournaments, Apertura from July to December and Clausura from January to May. The champions are decided by a final phase called "liguilla". Since 2020, promotion and relegation has been suspended, which is to last until 2026.
