Copaken Brooks, formerly Copaken, White & Blitt is a privately owned full-service commercial real estate developer headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, that acquires, develops, leases, manages and sells various types of commercial assets within the Midwest for its clients and investors. History

The firm, originally known as Copaken Realtors, was founded by Herman Copaken in 1922. [1]

In 1965, the company changed its name to Copaken White & Blitt when the brothers-in-law, Paul Copaken, Lewis White, and Irwin Blitt, took over running the company. [2]

In the 1960s and 1970s the company developed several shopping centers including Mission Center Mall, Oak Park Mall as well as the Eastland Mall in Bloomington, Illinois, Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth, Illinois, and Rockaway Townsquare in Rockaway, New Jersey. [ citation needed ]

The company also sold the property to Sprint and Black & Veatch Corporation to build their corporate headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas. In 2008, it developed the headquarters for Applebee's. [3]

In 2010, Copaken White & Blitt merged with First Scout Realty Advisors. [4]

In 2013, the company won the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce "Mr. K" Small Business of the Year award.[ citation needed ]

In March 2022, the company celebrated 100 years of business. [5]  

In 2023, the company merged with CBC Real Estate Group, [6] which it has been partnering with since 2022. [7]

Awards and recognition

In 2013, the company won the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce "Mr. K" Small Business of the Year award.[ citation needed ]

In July 2023, Ingram Magazine awarded Copaken Brooks a silver medal in the “Best Commercial Real Estate Firm” category. [8]

Mission Center Mall was a small mall in Mission, Kansas, located on a block of land wedged between four major roads, including Shawnee Mission Parkway and Johnson Drive, and Roe Boulevard and Roeland Drive. It opened in 1956 as Mission Shopping Center and was rebuilt as Mission Center Mall in 1989. In 2006, Mission Center Mall was closed and demolished and the property vacated.

The anchor stores are Kohl's, Von Maur, TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, Ulta Beauty, Ross Dress for Less, and Shoe Dept. Encore. The mall is managed by Namdar Realty Group. There are 3 vacant anchor stores that were once JCPenney, Sears, and Bergner's.
