History

Origins

The origins of Corcym trace back to the Sorin Group, an Italian medical technology firm founded in 1956 by Fiat and Montedison. In 2015, Sorin Group merged with the US medical device company Cyberonics to form LivaNova, consolidating their cardiac surgery and neuromodulation business units. [2]

Formation of Corcym

In June 2021, LivaNova sold its heart valve business to the investment firm Gyrus Capital in a transaction valued at €60 million ($73 million). [3] Following the acquisition, the business was established as a new independent company and named Corcym. The new company retained the division's product lines, its approximately 850 employees, and its manufacturing facilities. [3]

As of 2025, the chief executive officer of Corcym is Christian Mazzi. Prior to joining Corcym, Mazzi was an operating partner at Evolve Healthcare Partners and previously held leadership roles at Mundipharma and Bain & Company. [4]

Operations

Corcym is a privately held entity owned by Gyrus Capital. The company employs approximately 850–900 staff globally and operates in over 100 countries. Its manufacturing and R&D facilities in Saluggia and Vancouver are certified by regulatory agencies, including the FDA and the EMA.

Products

Corcym's product offerings encompass mechanical and tissue heart valves, annuloplasty rings, and surgical accessories for treating heart valve disease. Products include the Perceval sutureless aortic valve, the MEMO 4D semi-rigid mitral ring, and the HAART aortic annuloplasty devices. [5] [6] [1]

AVATAR Robotic Surgery

In August 2025, Corcym's Perceval Plus sutureless aortic heart valve was used in a robotic aortic valve replacement. The procedure was performed at the Cleveland Clinic. This technique, named AVATAR (Advanced Videoscopic Aortic valve surgery by Transcervical Approach using Robot assistance), involved a transcervical incision and combined Corcym's valve with CardioPrecision's CoreVista robotic platform.
