Coriky was an American alternative rock band from Washington D.C., formed in 2015. The band was made up of Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi, The Evens), Amy Farina (The Warmers, The Evens), and Joe Lally (Fugazi, The Messthetics). The band's straightforward approach is reflected in the band's bio, which in its entirety reads: "Coriky is a band from Washington, D.C. Amy Farina plays drums. Joe Lally plays bass. Ian MacKaye plays guitar. All sing." [1]

History

In 2015, Farina and MacKaye, who played together in The Evens, began playing music with Joe Lally (Fugazi, The Messthetics). [2] In 2018, the group played their first show, now with the adopted moniker Coriky. [3] During early 2020, Coriky released two songs, "Clean Kill" and "Too Many Husbands" via various free streaming services. Although the self-titled debut album was originally set for release on March 27, 2020, the COVID-19 lockdown enacted in the United States during March, 2020, delayed its release until June 12, 2020, in part to accommodate independent record stores closed due to the pandemic. [4] [5] The band previewed their album at a free show in D.C.'s St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church on February 22, 2020. [6]

Upon release the record was favorably reviewed, and compared and contrasted to MacKaye and Farina's other band The Evens, and to MacKaye and Lally's other band Fugazi. [7] [8] [9] The band ceased activity following the album's release, and have not released any further material nor played any further shows as of 2024.

The Evens is the debut album from The Evens, a duo formed by Ian MacKaye on baritone guitar and Amy Farina on drums. Consisting of songs that the pair had been writing since August 2001, the songs would be performed live several times and even demoed before being recorded at Inner Ear Studios with Don Zientara during the summer of 2004. A reaction against what MacKaye had perceived to be the commercialization of rock music driven by the industry's "idea of youth", the album's "post-post-hardcore" sound is more stripped-down, minimal and personal in comparison to his work with Fugazi. The more direct and politically-charged lyrics, penned by both members, deal mainly with "the loss of community and the struggle to recapture it", though some of them feature romantic themes as well.

The Warmers were an American post-hardcore band based in Washington, D.C., United States, active from 1994 to 1997. The band was a trio featuring former Faith vocalist Alec MacKaye, Juan Luis Carrera, and Amy Farina (drums), the Warmers recorded for the Washington, D.C. based record label Dischord Records. Their self-titled album The Warmers, released in February 1996, was praised for its minimalism and Farina's "furious" drumming.
