Correctional Services of Solomon Islands (CSSI) is the correctional agency of the government of the Solomon Islands. It was previously known as the Solomon Islands Prison Service (SIPS).

Facilities

Construction on the Gizo Correctional Centre in Gizo, Western Province began in December 2010. [1]

The service also operates the Auki Correctional Centre in Auki, Malaita Province. The prison, newly constructed as of 2009, can house up to 60 prisoners. It has dedicated space for women and juvenile prisoners. [2]

Parklea Correctional Centre, a privately managed Australian maximum and minimum security prison for males, is located at Parklea, in the north-western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. The facility is operated by MTC Ventia and has a current capacity for 1,350 inmates. The Centre accepts prisoners charged and convicted under New South Wales and/or Commonwealth legislation and incorporates a minimum security work release centre for inmates nearing release with a capacity of 120. A Compulsory Drug Treatment Correctional unit is incorporated within the centre.

Tamworth Correctional Centre, an Australian medium security prison for males, is located in Tamworth, New South Wales, 397 kilometres (247 mi) north of Sydney. The facility is operated by Corrective Services NSW, an agency of the Department of Attorney General and Justice, of the Government of New South Wales. The Centre accepts felons charged and convicted under New South Wales and/or Commonwealth legislation and serves as a reception prison for north–western New South Wales. A periodic detention centre for males was opened in March 1997.

Auki Place in Malaita Province, Solomon Islands

Auki is the provincial capital of Malaita Province, Solomon Islands. It is situated on the northern end of Langa Langa Lagoon on the north-west coast of Malaita Island. It is one of the largest provincial towns in Solomon Islands. It was established as the administrative center for Malaita Province in 1909.

Gizo, Solomon Islands

Gizo is the capital of the Western Province in Solomon Islands. With a population of 7,177, it is the second largest town in the country. It is situated on Ghizo Island approximately 380 kilometres west-northwest of the capital, Honiara, and is just southwest of the larger island of Kolombangara.

Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Honiara Latin Catholic jurisdiction in the Solomon Islands

The Archdiocese of Honiara is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or archdiocese of the Catholic Church in the Solomon Islands. It is the successor of the apostolic prefecture of the British Solomon Islands, which was erected in 1897. The ecclesiastical province of Honiara was created in 1978, the first such creation of Pope John Paul II, and contains two suffragan sees: Gizo and Auki (1982).

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Gizo is a suffragan diocese of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Honiara. It was erected Vicariate Apostolic in 1959 from the Vicariates Apostolic of Northern Solomon Islands and Southern Solomon Islands. In 1966, it was elevated to a diocese and was renamed as the Diocese of Gizo. St. Peter's Cathedral at Gizo is the mother church for the diocese.

Corrective Services New South Wales (CSNSW) is a division of the Department of Communities and Justice of the Government of New South Wales, Australia. CSNSW is responsible for the state's prisons and a range of programs for managing offenders in the community. The state has 36 prisons, 33 run by CSNSW and three privately operated. The agency traces its origins back to 1788, when New South Wales was founded as a penal colony.

It is operated by the South African Department of Correctional Services.

2014 Solomon Islands general election

General elections were held in the Solomon Islands on 19 November 2014. Independent candidates won 32 of the 50 seats in the National Parliament, with the Democratic Alliance Party emerging as the largest party with seven seats.

Christopher Cardone

Christopher Michael Cardone, OP is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Since 2016, Cardone has been serving as archbishop and metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Honiara in the Solomon Islands.
