Premise

CounterPunch is an authentic documentary about boxing, covering both the good and the bad aspects of the sport, and follows the personal growth and development of its main characters. The film also features commentary from established boxers like Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar De La Hoya, Paulie Malignaggi and others. [4]

Oscar De La Hoya Mexican-American boxer

Oscar De La Hoya, is an American former professional boxer who, in 2002, also became a boxing promoter and, in 2018, a mixed martial arts (MMA) promoter. As a boxer, he competed from 1992 to 2008, winning 11 world titles in six weight classes, including the lineal championship in three weight classes. He is ranked as the 13th best boxer of all time, pound for pound, by BoxRec. De La Hoya was nicknamed "The Golden Boy of boxing" by the media when he represented the United States at the 1992 Summer Olympics where, shortly after having graduated from James A. He was a four-weight world champion, having won titles at lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight; the undisputed lightweight title; and the lineal lightweight and welterweight titles. In 1989, Whitaker was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America. He currently holds the longest unified lightweight championship reign in boxing history at six title defenses. Whitaker is generally regarded as one of the greatest defensive boxers of all-time.

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao Boxing competition

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao, also billed as The Dream Match, was a professional boxing welterweight superfight. The bout took place on December 6, 2008 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Pacquiao defeated De La Hoya via technical knockout when De La Hoya decided not to continue with the fight before the start of the ninth round. The card was a co-production of Bob Arum's Top Rank Boxing and De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and was aired live on pay-per-view (PPV) on HBO PPV. The fight is notable for propelling Manny Pacquiao to full-blown superstar status in much of the western world, as Oscar De La Hoya symbolically "passed the torch", so to speak, to Pacquiao.

As an amateur he represented Mexico, winning the 2011 Mexican National Championships and competing at the 2012 Youth World Championships. He is the cousin of former boxer Oscar De La Hoya.
