The County Town Singers are a Canadian choral group based in Whitby, Ontario. The choir has performed hundreds of concerts in southern Ontario, and has also performed across Canada and internationally,

History

The County Town Singers were founded in 1967 as a project to mark Canada's 100th birthday. [1] [2] The next year, Marg Weber became the group's pianist. [3] An early director was Jim Ashley. [3]

In 1972, the choir recorded an album, County Town Singers, Sing for People. [4]

In 1980 Russell Baird became the director of the choir. [5] [6]

The choir performed at Expo 86 in Vancouver, British Columbia. [7] In 1991 they traveled to Austria to perform in Whitby's twinned town, Feldkirch. [8]

In 2012 the County Town Singers participated in the Rhythms of One World Festival sponsored by the United Nations and performed there with other choirs from around the world. [9]

The choir celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017 by performing in Ottawa at the National Arts Centre with other Canadian choirs and the orchestra. [2]

The Ontario Regiment (RCAC) is a Primary Reserve armoured reconnaissance regiment of the Canadian Army. The unit is based in downtown Oshawa, Ontario, and is named after Ontario County (1852–1974). Formed in 1866, and more commonly known as the 'Ontarios', 'black cats' or 'ONT R' (pronounced "ON-tar"), the regiment ranks among the oldest continuously serving Reserve (Militia) regiments in Canada and is one of the senior armoured regiments in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps.

In 1970, the Junior A level was divided into two more levels, Tier I and Tier II. In 1974, the "Major Junior A" division of the OHA became the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League (OMJHL) and began to operate independently of the OHA. Finally in 1980, the OMJHL became the Ontario Hockey League.

King's Highway 412, or simply Highway 412, is a controlled-access highway and former tolled highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The route is 8.9 km (5.5 mi) long, connecting Highway 401 with the eastern extension of Highway 407. The route lies entirely within Whitby in the Regional Municipality of Durham, travelling within one kilometre of the border between Whitby and Ajax and Pickering.

The Oshawa Civic Band is a traditional Canadian "British" brass band based in the city of Oshawa, Ontario. It is similar to the bands of The Salvation Army, which means that all parts, except for the bass trombone and percussion, are in treble clef, and the instrumentation is made up of Eb Soprano Cornet, Solo, 1st/Repiano, 2nd and 3rd Bb Cornets, Bb Flugal Horn, Solo, 1st and 2nd Eb Tenor Horns, 1st and 2nd Baritones, Euphonium, 1st and 2nd (Tenor) Trombones, Bass Trombone, EEb and BBb bass and percussion.

Robert Alan Attersley was a well known Canadian ice hockey player who competed in the 1960 Winter Olympics. He was born in Oshawa, Ontario, to Ernest and Marietta Attersley. During his lifetime he owned and operated several businesses and had a political career which extended to being the mayor of Whitby.

Thomas David "T.D." Thomas was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a CCF member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. He represented the ridings of Ontario from 1948 to 1955, and Oshawa from 1955 to 1963.
