Falkirk is a town in the Central Lowlands of Scotland, historically within the county of Stirlingshire. It lies in the Forth Valley, 23+1⁄2 miles northwest of Edinburgh and 20+1⁄2 miles (33 km) northeast of Glasgow.

The Tennents' Sixes was an annual indoor football tournament contested each January by senior football clubs from Scotland between 1984 and 1993. The tournament was sponsored by Tennent Caledonian Breweries and organised by the Scottish Football Association. When Tennent Caledonian Breweries withdrew their sponsorship after the 1993 event, the Sixes was discontinued.

There are a number of indoor ice rinks in African countries that are used for ice hockey. Enthusiasts have formed national teams in several countries and an inaugural African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey was planned for 2009. The first African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey was planned for South Africa between 19–26 September 2009. The matches of the championship were to be played at the ice rink of "Festival Shopping Centre" in Kempton Park. The competing countries were to be South Africa, Morocco and Algeria. However, the tournament was postponed due to lack of response from the invited countries and never played.

Scottish Hockey currently runs two men's national outdoor leagues and two women's national outdoor leagues. The season runs from September to May, with a break in winter for the Indoor league. The winners of the Premiership are declared Scottish Champions. The men's leagues were formed in 1975 after competitive district hockey proved popular. The 1974-75 district results were used to populate the inaugural season which was made up of three leagues of twelve. Following the first season, the leagues were split into six leagues of eight teams.
The 1948–49 season was the forty-seventh season in which Dundee competed at a Scottish national level, playing in Division A. In one of the club's most impressive seasons in its history, Dundee would lead the league going into the final day, but a loss to Falkirk and title rivals Rangers defeating Albion Rovers resulted in Dundee finishing 2nd, just 1 point behind Rangers. Striker Alex Stott would top the Division A scoring charts with 30 league goals, and would score 39 goals in all competitions.
