Creditinfo is a global credit bureau and information services group with operations in more than 33 countries. [1] [2]

As of 2020 the company employs over 450 people with corporate headquarters in London, United Kingdom. The company was initially created in 1997 as Lánstraust ehf, later taking up the name Creditinfo. [3]

History

The sole founder of Lánstraust ehf was Reynir Grétarsson, with two other co-founders bringing their share capitals later the same year. [4] One of these partners left after a few months, the other partner left after 3 years. In 2003, Lánstraust ehf was renamed and established as Creditinfo. [5] [6] In 2005, Graham Platts and two other former executives of Experian became shareholders in the company, buying a total of 17% of the shares. They remained shareholders until 2013, when the company itself bought back their share in the company, at that time 31,5%. [7] [8]

In 2009, Creditinfo and Schufa signed a contract and created Creditinfo SCHUFA GmbH. This cooperation was terminated in 2011 due to conflicts of interest. [9] In March 2012, Creditinfo established the first licensed credit bureau in Jamaica. [10] [11] In February 2013, Creditinfo signed an agreement to provide credit bureau software to Da Afghanistan Bank, and in June 2013, Creditinfo was granted a full operation licence to the Bank of Tanzania. [12] [13] [14]

Creditinfo Group is listed in "Doing Business 2013" publication issued by World Bank and International Finance Corporation. [15]

Notable acquisitions

The acquisitions of ICECREDITINFO and Upplýsingaþjónustan in 1998 eliminated all the existing Icelandic competition. [16] In 2004, Creditinfo acquired a media monitoring service called Fjölmiðlavaktin. [17] In 2015, Creditinfo acquired Credit Bureau in Morocco from Experian. [18] In August 2015, Creditinfo acquired Krediidiinfo in Estonia from Experian. [19] In August 2016, Creditinfo acquired VisualDNA’s Credit and Risk business from Imagini. [20]

Creditinfo operates in the business-to-business sector selling consumer credit reports and related analytics. [21]

A credit score is a number that provides a comparative estimate of an individual's creditworthiness based on an analysis of their credit report. It is an inexpensive and main alternative to other forms of consumer loan underwriting.

GUS plc was a FTSE 100 retailing, manufacturing and financial conglomerate based in the United Kingdom. GUS was an abbreviation of Great Universal Stores, the company's name before 2001, while it was also known as the Glorious Gussies amongst stockbrokers. The company started out as Universal Stores, a mail order business created by the Rose family. In 1931, Isaac Wolfson joined the mail order company and would, through a series of takeovers, turn it into a retail, manufacturing and financial conglomerate, becoming Europe's biggest mail order firm and with over 2,700 physical stores. Carcraft was an independent group of used car hypermarkets established in 1951 in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England, with eleven locations around the country. A credit bureau is a data collection agency that gathers account information from various creditors and provides that information to a consumer reporting agency in the United States, a credit reference agency in the United Kingdom, a credit reporting body in Australia, a credit information company (CIC) in India, Special Accessing Entity in the Philippines, and also to private lenders. It is not the same as a credit rating agency.

A credit score is a numerical expression based on a level analysis of a person's credit files, to represent the creditworthiness of an individual. A credit score is primarily based on a credit report, information typically sourced from credit bureaus.

LifeLock Inc. was an American software company active from 2005 to 2017. The company was best known for its eponymous LifeLock identity theft prevention software, now sold by Gen Digital after the latter acquired LifeLock in 2017. LifeLock's system monitors for identity theft, the use of personal information, and credit score changes.

Before Uganda's independence in 1962, the main banks in Uganda were Barclays ; Grindlays, Standard Bank and the Bank of Baroda from India. The currency was issued by the East African Currency Board, a London-based body. Reynir F. Grétarsson is an Icelandic entrepreneur, philanthropist, Icelandic map collector and author of "About Mapping Iceland" Founder and former CEO and current chairman of the Board of Creditinfo Group, a multinational credit bureau and risk management company. Reynir was selected entrepreneur of the year in Iceland in 2008.[14]

The Credit Information Corporation (CIC) is a government-owned and controlled corporation providing credit information system in the Philippines. It was created in 2008 by the Credit Information System Act (CISA) to construct a centralized, comprehensive credit information system for the collection and dissemination of accurate and fair information relevant to, or arising from, credit and credit-related activities of all entities participating in the financial system. This credit information is to be collected from various sources such as banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, financing companies, credit cooperatives, as well as utility companies and other businesses that extend loans. The CIC compiles this credit information to help creditors evaluate the ability of borrowers to pay.
