Cronicl y Cerddor was a 19th-century monthly Welsh language music magazine, first published in Treherbert, Wales, by l. Jones in 1880.
The magazine's founder, musician and composer David Emlyn Evans (1843 - 1913) edited the magazine, which contained mainly articles about music and musicians, and compositions (published as supplement). Schoolmaster, musician, and writer, Moses Owen Jones (1842 - 1908) assisted as the magazine's deputy editor. [1] [2]
The 1904–1905 Welsh revival was the largest Christian revival in Wales during the 20th century. It was one of the most dramatic in terms of its effect on the population, and triggered revivals in several other countries. The movement kept the churches of Wales filled for many years to come, seats being placed in the aisles in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Swansea for twenty years or so, for example. Meanwhile, the Awakening swept the rest of Britain, Scandinavia, parts of Europe, North America, the mission fields of India and the Orient, Africa and Latin America. The Welsh revival has been traced as the root of the megachurches in the present era.

Allen Raine was the pseudonym of the Welsh novelist Anne Adalisa Beynon Puddicombe, who was born in Newcastle Emlyn. Her novels had sold more than two million copies by 1912.
Meredydd Evans, known colloquially as Merêd, was a collector, editor, historian and performer of folk music of Wales. A major figure in Welsh media for over half a century, Evans has been described as influencing "almost every sphere of Welsh cultural life, from folk music and philosophy to broadcasting and language politics".

Its first editor was Emlyn Evans and it was published by Llyfrau'r Dryw, Llandybie. Its current editors are now Vaughan Hughes and Menna Baines, who took over from Dyfrig Jones in 2008, and the magazine is now published by Gwasg Dinefwr.

Phyllis Kinney is an American-born singer, collector and historian who is a leading authority on Welsh folk music. She studied at the Juilliard School and was a soprano with the Carl Rosa Opera Company during the 1940s. After meeting her husband Meredydd Evans, Kinney immersed herself in the culture of Wales. Through her writing, research and performances, Kinney helped to preserve and promote traditional music of Wales. The archives of Kinney and Evans are now part of the Welsh Music Archive at the National Library of Wales.
