Near Lake Brunner, it passes through reasonably flat farmland, but closer to its source, it rushes through gorges and rapids. One tributary is the Poerua River from Lake Poerua.

The Crooked River is a river in the Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada, beginning at Summit Lake and the community of the same name, flowing north into McLeod Lake. It is part of the drainage area of the Pack River, via the McLeod River north from McLeod Lake and which feeds Lake Williston, and therefore also part of the Peace River basin and in the Arctic Ocean drainage. South of its source at Summit Lake is the drainage basin of the Fraser River, and so of the Pacific Ocean. Crooked River Provincial Park is located close its course, on Bear Lake just south of the community of Bear Lake.

Ponca Creek is a stream that flows from southern South Dakota and into northern Nebraska. It is 139 miles (224 km) long. Its source is about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of U.S. 183, near Colome. It flows into the Missouri River 6 miles (9.7 km) northwest of Niobrara. Ponca Creek starts out going east, then takes a southeast direction, which continues until around Bristow, Nebraska, where it turns east again until it flows into the Missouri River. The entire Ponca Creek watershed drains 520,000 acres (2,100 km2). The watershed stretches from central Tripp County to central Gregory County.
The Rapid City, Black Hills and Western Railroad, also known simply as the Black Hills and Western Railroad and commonly referred to as the Rapid Canyon Line or the Crouch Line, is a defunct standard gauge freight railroad line that operated in the Black Hills in the U.S. state of South Dakota. The railroad became known throughout the area for its crookedness and later became a tourist attraction. It ran from Rapid City to Mystic for a distance of 36.043 miles. The railroad ceased operations in 1947.

Crooked Lake Provincial Park is a recreational provincial park in the south-east region of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It is situated along the north-eastern shore of Crooked Lake in the Qu'Appelle Valley in the RM of Grayson No. 184. The community of Sunset Beach is adjacent to the eastern boundary of the park and access is from Highway 247.
