Cross-Cultural Solutions, also known as CCS, was a New Rochelle, New York-based non-for-profit working to address critical global issues. The organization used a community-designed approach to international volunteering. Cross-Cultural Solutions was operating in nine countries worldwide: Brazil, Costa Rica, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Morocco, Peru, Tanzania, and Thailand.
Volunteers assisted with education, health-care and community development projects. [1]

Gap years are not limited to a year-long break and can range from several months to a few years.
The Brong-Ahafo region was a region in central Ghana. Brong-Ahafo was bordered to the north by the Black Volta river and to the east by the Lake Volta, and to the south by the Ashanti, Eastern and Western regions. The capital of Brong-Ahafo is Sunyani. Brong-Ahafo was created on 14 April 1959 from the then Western Ashanti and named after the main ethnic groups, the Brong and Ahafo. Efua Theodora Sutherland was a Ghanaian playwright, director, dramatist, children's author, poet, educationalist, researcher, child advocate, and cultural activist. Her works include the plays Foriwa (1962), Edufa (1967), and The Marriage of Anansewa (1975). She founded the Ghana Drama Studio, the Ghana Society of Writers, the Ghana Experimental Theatre, and a community project called the Kodzidan. She was also a pioneering African publisher, establishing the company Afram Publications in Accra in the 1970s.
Globe Aware, established in 2001, is an international, non-religious, non-governmental, non-political nonprofit organization headquartered in Dallas, Texas. The organization was founded by Kimberly Haley-Coleman and holds special consultative status with the United Nations. Globe Aware's mission is to promote cultural awareness and sustainability by implementing community projects in various international host communities. Volunteers are mobilized for short term service projects in over 17 program sites around the world. Like peers such as Habitat for Humanity, the organization is led by volunteer efforts.

Tzedek is a UK-based registered charity organisation which aims to provide a Jewish response to the problem of extreme global poverty. Registered as a charity in 1993, Tzedek has a number of overseas development programmes, working closely with local NGOs to alleviate extreme poverty in Northern Ghana and Northeast & Southeast India. As well as supporting local NGOs within these regions, Tzedek aims to develop the leadership skills of young Jewish leaders within the community to provide a long-term, sustainable solution to global poverty.

Ghana Think Tank is a public art project founded in 2006. They are a global network, with think tanks located in Ghana, Cuba, Serbia, Mexico, and El Salvador. Their mission to "develop the first world" is implemented by finding solutions to problems in Europe and the United States by sending them to their think tanks to analyze. Some themes include immigration, legal waiting zones, and racial profiling.

International volunteering is when volunteers contribute their time to work for organisations or causes outside their home countries. International volunteering has a long association with international development or environment, with the aim of bringing benefits to host communities.
