Cross River South senatorial district is in Cross River State, Nigeria. [1] It covers seven local governments areas of the state which include Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Odukpani, Biase and Akampka. [2] Asuquo Ekpenyong of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the current senator representing the Cross River South senatorial district at the Nigerian senate. [3] [4] [5] [6] On 24 May 2020, the Nigerian Navy arrested 42 suspected cultists during initiation at Akpabuyo LGA in Cross River South senatorial district. [7]

In early 2020, some persons from the Cross Rivers South senatorial district, under the aegis of Cross River South Stakeholders Group and headed by High Chief Ita Ewa Henshaw, tried to recall the Senator representing the district by writing a petition of recall to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The petition generated a lot of controversies but failed in its intended purpose. [8]

Bassey Albert Akpan CON is a Nigerian politician who has been a member of the Senate of Nigeria since June 2015. Previously, he was Commissioner of Finance in Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2014. He was first elected to the Senate in March 2015, to represent Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District and he won re-election for a second time in the February 2019 senatorial elections. He is a member of the ypp.ng.
