Crossfire Premier Soccer Club

Crossfire Premier Soccer Club (formerly Crossfire Sounders) is a non-profit, youth soccer organization based in Redmond, WA affiliated with the Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association. Originally founded in 2000. [1] it has since grown into a nationally recognized club [2] [3] with boys and girls teams competing in the Elite Clubs National League, winning several national titles. The club is also affiliated with Crossfire Redmond, [4] a semi-professional team that plays in the National Premier Soccer League.

The current Coaching Director is Bernie James who has served as director for over 20 years. Recently however, after an investigation into allegations of racial and sexual harassment, James had his license suspended by U.S. Soccer [5] [6] and his status is uncertain at this time while the investigation by U.S. Soccer continues.

Solidarity Payments

Crossfire Premier gained national attention when it brought a petition before FIFA's Dispute Resolution Center arguing that the club is entitled to collect solidarity payments for its contributions to Yedlin's development. [8] Ultimately the panel ruled against Crossfire's claim though not for its merits, saying instead that the USSF claimed at the time that solidarity payments were illegal in the United States. [9]

Later, MLS announced that it would begin enforcing solidarity payments for its youth academies when players go on to sign a professional contract [10]

History

Prior to the club's founding, Alan Hinton coached the original Crossfire Sounders [11] U13 boys team in 1992 until 1997, winning four state championships and reaching the regional semifinals twice. [12] It was while coaching Crossfire that Neil Farnsworth, a top executive with Microsoft and player's parent, discussed with Hinton the idea of reviving the Seattle Sounders professional team, [13] [14] which he coached for their first two years. Shortly after coaching the Crossfire Sounders boys, Crossfire Premier was founded and Hinton became their first Advanced Development Program Coaching Director. [15] He was succeeded as Coaching Director first by Jimmy Gabriel then later by Bernie James who has served as director for over 20 years.

Bernie James is a former U.S. soccer player and current youth soccer coach. James spent twenty-four years as a professional, both beginning and ending his career with different versions of the Seattle Sounders. He played in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League and A-League. He served as an assistant coach with the Sounders for seven seasons and as interim head coach for one. He was a member of the U.S. Olympic soccer team which qualified for, but did not play in, the 1980 Summer Olympics due to the United States' boycott in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He also earned two caps with the U.S. national team in 1988.

Neil Megson is a soccer coach and former player who coaches youth soccer. A midfielder, he played two seasons in the North American Soccer League, nine in Major Indoor Soccer League, one in the Continental Indoor Soccer League and six in the USL First Division and its predecessors. He served as head coach to the Seattle Sounders for five seasons, winning the 1995 A-League championship and being named the 2000 USL Coach of the Year. Born in England, he earned two caps with the U.S. national team in 1988. He is the brother of former West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson.

The Seattle Sounders were an American professional soccer team that was founded in 1994 and played in several second-division leagues, beginning with the American Professional Soccer League. Emerald City Football Club (ECFC) is a Seattle-based select soccer club. ECFC is a premier year-round soccer club with professional coaching. It is one of Seattle's oldest select soccer clubs, having formed in 1979. ECFC is a non-profit, 501c3 organization largely run by volunteers. ECFC teams compete with other premier clubs in Washington State in the Puget Sound Premier League (PSPL). ECFC players come from all different neighborhoods in the Seattle and Puget Sound region, rather than from one specific geographical area. ECFC is a member of US Club Soccer.

The Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) is a national youth soccer developmental league in the United States. It was founded in 2009 as a girls' league and added a boys' league in 2017.
