Cultura Tres is a band that started in Maracay, Venezuela in 2006. [1] The band was formed by brothers Alejandro and Juanma Montoya.
During the band's time making sludge-doom music, guitarist brothers Alejandro and Juanma Montoya produced independent releases. In its early years, the band toured Europe, Japan and South-America, and was listed as a "Discovery of the month" for Metal Hammer UK. [2] Burrn, a Japanese magazine, described the band as "Tool meets South American rock", and praised the band's "dark, gloomy riffs with swelling groove". [3]
In a review in Metal Underground, the band's self-released album El Mal Del Bien (2011) was praised as "a memorable album", receiving 4/5 or "excellent" on the publication's rating system. [4]
In 2019, the Montoya brothers' friend Paulo Jr. (bass player of Sepultura) joined the band. [5] [6] Soon after, the first demo sessions took place in a studio in Amsterdam. [1] The resulting style retained elements of the band's psychedelic-sludgy past, but incorporated Paulo's influence. [5]
During the following three years and despite the pandemic, Cultura Tres worked on an album. Drummers Alonso Milano Mendoza and Jerry Vergara joined the band as studio musicians to record Camino de Brujos ("Trail of Witches"), an album that explored new and old musical textures. [7] Camino de Brujos was released in 2023 through Outono / Universal Music Group in the Americas and in the rest of the world through AJM / Bloodblast. [7] The record received praise for its tone in Bass Magazine. [7]
After touring in late 2023, the band performed at large music festivals across South America and Europe, including 'Bloodstock Open Air' in the UK and 'Summer Breeze Open Air' in Brazil. [8]
The addition of Henrique Pucci, a Brazilian drummer, completes Cultura Tres’ new line-up. The band is preparing their follow-up album, scheduled for release in February 2025.[ citation needed ]
Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in Belo Horizonte in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera. Initially a black metal band, they were a major force in the groove metal, thrash metal and death metal genres during the late 1980s and early 1990s, with their later experiments drawing influence from alternative metal, world music, nu metal, hardcore punk and industrial metal. Sepultura is also considered part of the second wave of thrash metal acts from the late 1980s to early-to-mid-1990s.
Chaos A.D. is the fifth studio album by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, released in 1993 by Roadrunner Records. The album saw a stylistic departure from the band's earlier thrash metal style, by featuring a new groove metal sound. Chaos A.D. is also Sepultura's only album on Epic Records, who handled its release for North American distribution, as well as the first album to feature Paulo Jr. on bass after having played with the band in a live capacity since 1984.
Morbid Visions is the debut studio album by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, released on November 10, 1986, by Cogumelo Records. While later albums have a more political edge, Morbid Visions is notable for Satanic themes and imagery. The band said many lyrics were fashioned after those of early extreme metal bands such as Venom and Celtic Frost.
Schizophrenia is the second studio album by Brazilian thrash metal band Sepultura, released on October 30, 1987 by Cogumelo Records. It is the first album for the band with Andreas Kisser. The album's sound leans more towards the death/thrash metal genre than the previous album Morbid Visions, which is stylistically closer to black metal. All songs were recorded during August 1987. The reissue of 1990 has a bonus track "Troops of Doom" which was recorded during August 26–27, 1990.
Brujeria is an American extreme metal band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1989. The band has Spanish lyrics with topics such as Satanism, anti-Christianity, sex, immigration, narcotics smuggling, and politics. Brujeria portrays Mexican imagery, with several members being Hispanic and Latino Americans, while the band's name stands for brujería.
Bestial Devastation is an EP by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, released in 1985 through Cogumelo Records. It is their first official release, and originally appeared alongside Overdose's Século XX as a split album. The EP's songs were later released as bonus tracks on the CD version of Morbid Visions.
Blood-Rooted is an album by Brazilian metal band Sepultura, released on June 3, 1997. It was a collection of unreleased tracks, B-sides, remixes, and live recordings. It was also the last officially recognised Sepultura album featuring original singer Max Cavalera, who left in December 1996 amid a management dispute. Cavalera was replaced by American singer Derrick Green in 1997.
Paulo Xisto Pinto Júnior is a Brazilian musician best known as the bassist for heavy metal band Sepultura. He joined Sepultura after Roberto Raffan left the band in 1984, becoming Sepultura's second bassist. Although no original members are left in Sepultura, Pinto is the longest remaining member of Sepultura despite never performing on any album until Chaos A.D. (1993).
Sarcófago was a Brazilian extreme metal band formed in 1985. They were fronted by Sepultura's original singer, Wagner Lamounier, and Geraldo Minelli.
Refuse/Resist is Sepultura's fourth single, released in 1993. The title song, also included as a single off the album Chaos A.D., is one of the band's best-known songs and remains a concert staple to this day. A music video was filmed for the single which features the band playing live at a festival intercut with footage of rioting and general unrest. This video can be found on the VHS Third World Chaos, which was later released on DVD as part of the Chaos DVD. The intro to the song is the heartbeat of Max Cavalera's then-unborn first son Zyon. This song is also notable for having a 20-second growl at the end.
Arise is the fourth studio album by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, released in 1991 by Roadrunner Records. Upon its release, the album received top reviews from heavy metal magazines such as Rock Hard, Kerrang! and Metal Forces. Arise is considered Sepultura's finest hour among longtime fans. While the music on Arise was mostly in the same death/thrash style as their previous album, Beneath the Remains, it was clear that the Sepultura sound was acquiring an experimental edge.
Brazilian thrash metal is a musical movement that originated in the 1980s. Though not as large or well known as the North American or European thrash metal movements, it bridged the gap of the mid-1980s and the death metal scene later in the decade and the first-wave of black metal. Although some bands have become mainstream, the scene is an underground icon.
"Arise" is Sepultura's first official single, as well as the first of three to be released from the album of the same name.
A-Lex is the eleventh studio album by the Brazilian metal band Sepultura. It was released on January 23, 2009 by independent German record label SPV. This is the first album featuring drummer Jean Dolabella, since the departure of Igor Cavalera in 2006.
Live in São Paulo is the second live album by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura. All the tracks were recorded on April 3, 2005, at a concert in São Paulo, Brazil. A DVD was also filmed at the show. The performance of "Refuse/Resist" was released as the single for the album. Both were released on November 8, through SPV Records. The album and DVD are the second time that fans can hear singer Derrick Green perform Max Cavalera-era Sepultura songs on an official release. A live version of "Roots Bloody Roots" featuring Green was released as a bonus track on Nation.
Firefight is the third album by Canadian melodic death metal band Blackguard, due on March 29, 2011, via Victory Records. Unlike its predecessor, this album contains elements of power metal and symphonic metal based on the band's melodic death metal root, much like in Children of Bodom's vein.
