Căile Ferate Române is the state railway carrier of Romania. As of 2014, the railway network of Romania consists of 10,777 km (6,697 mi), of which 4,029 km (2,504 mi) (37.4%) are electrified. The total track length is 22,247 km (13,824 mi), of which 8,585 km (5,334 mi) (38.5%) are electrified. The CIA World Factbook lists Romania with the 23rd largest railway network in the world. The network is significantly interconnected with other European railway networks, providing pan-European passenger and freight services. CFR as an entity has been operating since 1880, even though the first railway on current Romanian territory was opened in 1854.

The Bosphorus Express, also known as the Trans Balkan Express, is an international passenger train running between Istanbul, Turkey and Bucharest, Romania. It runs together with the Istanbul-Sofia Express until Dimitrovgrad upon entering Bulgaria, where the latter continues to Sofia. The train is jointly operated by three national railways: the TCDD Taşımacılık, the Bulgarian State Railways, and the Romanian State Railways. The A3 motorway is a partially built motorway in Romania, planned to connect Bucharest with the Transylvania region and the north-western part of the country. The 2012–13 Cupa României was the seventy-fifth season of the annual Romanian football knockout tournament. The winner of the competition qualifies for the second qualifying round of the 2013–14 UEFA Europa League, if they have not already qualified for European competition; if so then the first non-European place of the 2012-13 Liga I qualifies for the first qualifying round of the 2013-14 UEFA Europa League.

The Cupa României Final was the final match of the 2012–13 Cupa României, played between Petrolul Ploiești and CFR Cluj. The match was played on 1 June 2013 at the Arena Națională in Bucharest. Petrolul Ploiești won the match 1-0, triumphing for the 3rd time in this competition while CFR Cluj lost its first final. It was the second final played on the Arena Națională and the second in Bucharest since 2006. Jeremy Bokila scored the only goal of the match in the 8th minute and was named Man of the Match. Winners Petrolul Ploiești will face Romanian Champions Steaua București, on the same stadium on 10 July in the Romanian Supercup.

Transferoviar Călători (TFC), a subsidiary of Transferoviar Grup, is a private railway operator from Romania that has as its main activity the public passenger transportation that is assured on 7 non-interoperable lines as well as on interoperable infrastructure. These routes are served with short to medium haul light rolling stock, diesel multiple units consisting of two or three carriges. Units can be coupled together to cope with rush hour services.
