DJDS (formerly DJ Dodger Stadium) is an American production and DJ duo consisting of Jerome LOL (Jerome Potter) and Samo Sound Boy (Sam Griesemer), based in Los Angeles. [1]

Members

Griesemer was born in Manhattan, New York and grew up in New Hampshire. He made his production debut in September 2010 with Taking It All, an EP for New York-based record label Palms Out Sounds . [2]

Potter is from Los Angeles, and previously released music as part of duo LOL Boys. [3] He has also recorded music under the name Wooly Wally and has released music through his own label, Jerry's Jams. [4]

History

In 2011, the pair founded the record label Body High, [5] [6] [7] [8] releasing their first EP Stadium Status on the label in October 2011. In July 2014, they released their debut album Friend of Mine on the label. [9] [10] [11] The album received praise from Pitchfork Magazine, earning an 8.0 score. [12] Other artists on the Body High roster include DJ Funeral, DJ Sliink, Jim-E Stack, Todd Edwards, Myrryrs, and Floyd Campbell. [13]

In 2015, they signed to Loma Vista Recordings and released their second album, Stand Up And Speak, in January the following year, [14] [15] [16] also on Body High. They followed up the album with a remixed version of the lead single "You Don't Have To Be Alone", featuring new vocals from Charlie Wilson, former lead singer of The Gap Band. [17] [18]

During this period, Griesemer also released three solo EPs through Body High as Samo Sound Boy – the 5 Dollar Paradise EP in September 2012, [19] the Your Love EP in October 2013, and "Open / Divine" in March 2014. The EPs received positive coverage from Pitchfork and The FADER. [20] [21]

DJDS provided production to Kanye West's 2016 album The Life of Pablo , working on the songs "Ultralight Beam", "Fade", "Father Stretch Pt. 1", "Freestyle 4", and "Low Lights". [22] [23] [24] They received a "Best Rap Song" Grammy nomination for "Ultralight Beam". [25] [26]

They produced the song "Rih-Flex" on The-Dream's 2016 EP Love You To Death. [27] [28]

In February 2017, DJDS soundtracked Kanye West's "Yeezy Season 5" fashion show, producing a 17-minute extended version of the song "Bed" featuring The-Dream. [29] [30] [31]

DJDS produced the song "Another Sad Love Song" on recording artist Khalid's debut album, American Teen , released March 2017. [32] The album debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200 chart. [33]

In July 2017, DJDS released the song "Trees on Fire" featuring Amber Mark and Marco McKinnis. It was named "Best New Track" by Pitchfork. [34]

In August 2017, DJDS released their single "Why Don't You Come On" featuring Khalid and Empress Of. [35] In March 2018, they released the single "No Pain" featuring Khalid, Charlie Wilson, and Charlotte Day Wilson. [36]

In May 2018, DJDS released their third studio album, Big Wave More Fire. [37]

They released a surprise four-song EP with Burna Boy, on 21 March 2019, called Steel & Copper . [38]

Their remix of Interpol's "The Rover" was featured on MLB The Show 19's official soundtrack.

It was first played at West's Yeezy Season 2 show in September 2015, before later being released for digital download and streaming as the third and final single from the album on September 9, 2016, through GOOD Music and Def Jam. 11 days later, the aforementioned labels serviced the song to radio stations across the United States. A hip house song with club elements, it samples Mr. Fingers's "Mystery of Love", Rare Earth's and The Undisputed Truth's respective cover versions of "(I Know) I'm Losing You", Hardrive's "Deep Inside", and Barbara Tucker's "I Get Lifted ". It was produced by West, DJDS and Mike Dean, while the lyrics were written by West, Dean, Jerome Potter, Samuel Griesemer and Sandy Rivera. DJDS worked on the album for three consecutive weeks after meeting West, with the latter sharing a snippet of the song on Saturday Night Live the day before release in February 2016.

Outside is the third studio album by Nigerian singer Burna Boy. It was released on January 26, 2018, through Spaceship Entertainment, Bad Habit and Atlantic Records. The album is the follow-up to his debut extended play Redemption (2016). Described by the singer as a mixtape, Outside consists mostly of Afrobeats, dancehall, reggae and road rap. It features guest vocals from English musicians J Hus, Lily Allen and Mabel. Outside was supported by six singles: "Rock Your Body", "Streets of Africa", "Koni Baje", "Sekkle Down", "Heaven's Gate" and "Ye". Its production was handled by various producers, including Juls, Leriq, P2J, Jae 5, FRED and Phantom.

"New Body" is an unreleased song by American hip hop superduo ¥$, composed of Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign. Originally recorded in 2018, it first contained a guest appearance by rapper and singer Nicki Minaj. Lyrically, the song debunks body shaming and the stigma surrounding plastic surgery; portions of West's lyrics are unintelligible. It was originally slated for inclusion on West's album Yandhi in late 2018, which was never released. It was then reworked with Christian-themed lyrics for West's ninth studio album Jesus Is King (2019); this version omitted Minaj in favor of Ty Dolla Sign, and was later previewed at listening parties and subsequently leaked. The song was also excluded from Jesus Is King due to creative differences with West and Minaj. In June 2020, the latter expressed interest in releasing the song after it became viral on TikTok.

The album is a mixture of Afrobeats, Afrobeat, dancehall, pop and hip hop. It was produced primarily by Kel-P, along with production from Benjamz, Dre Skull and Skrillex, among others. The album features guest appearances from Jorja Smith, Jeremih, Damian Marley, Zlatan Ibile, Angelique Kidjo, Serani, M.anifest, YG and Future. It was supported by eight singles, including "On the Low", which won Viewers' Choice at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, "Killin Dem", which won Song of the Year at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, among other awards; and "Anybody", which Burna Boy performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Afrobeats, not to be confused with Afrobeat or Afroswing, is an umbrella term to describe popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is less of a style per se, and more of a descriptor for the fusion of sounds flowing out of Nigeria and Ghana. Genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife, azonto music, and naija beats, among others, were amalgamated under the "Afrobeats" umbrella.

Steel & Copper is a collaborative extended play by Nigerian singer Burna Boy and American production duo DJDS. The EP comprises four tracks and was released on March 21, 2019, through Spaceship Entertainment, Bad Habit, Atlantic Records and Loma Vista Recordings. It is the follow-up to Burna Boy's third studio album, Outside (2018), and DJDS' fourth studio album, Big Wave More Fire (2018). Steel & Copper blends Burna Boy’s upbeat melodies with DJDS' slinky trap beats.

<i>Twice as Tall</i> 2020 studio album by Burna Boy

Twice as Tall is the fifth studio album by Nigerian singer Burna Boy. It was released on 14 August 2020 by Spaceship Entertainment, Bad Habit, Atlantic Records and Warner Music. Recording sessions took place in 2020, with Burna Boy, American singer and songwriter Diddy and Burna Boy Mother Bose Ogulu serving as the record's executive producers. The album is a mixture of Afrobeats, Afrobeat, dancehall, pop and hip hop. It was produced primarily by Telz, along with production from Rexxie, Timbaland and DJDS, among others. The album features guest appearances from Youssou N'Dour, Naughty by Nature, Sauti Sol, Chris Martin and Stormzy. Its lead single is "Wonderful", released on 26 June 2020.
