The DODX Guard Car No. G-56 is a historic railroad car at the Arkansas Railroad Museum in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. It was built about 1942 by the American Car and Foundry Company, and is a rare surviving example of a World War II troop transport, and as a railroad guard car used by the United States Department of Defense in the management of hazardous and valuable cargos that it transported by rail. The car is silver, with a horizontal black stripe on the side. [2]

American Car and Foundry Company manufacturer of railroad rolling stock

American Car and Foundry is an American manufacturer of railroad rolling stock. One of its subsidiaries was once (1925–54) a manufacturer of motor coaches and trolley coaches under the brand names of (first) ACF and (later) ACF-Brill. Today, ACF is known as ACF Industries LLC and is based in St. Charles, Missouri. It is owned by investor Carl Icahn.

The car was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. [1]

Texarkana Union Station

Texarkana Union Station is a historic train station in the Texarkana metropolitan area serving Amtrak, the United States' national passenger rail system. The Arkansas-Texas border bisects the structure; the eastern part, including the waiting room and ticket office, are in Texarkana, Arkansas, but the western part is in Texarkana, Texas, meaning stopped trains span both states. The station was built in 1928 and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Missouri Pacific Depot (Prescott, Arkansas)

The Missouri Pacific Depot of Prescott, Arkansas is located at 300 West 1st Street North. It is a 1-1/2 story red brick building, with a breezeway dividing it into two sections. One section continues to be reserved for railroad storage, while the other, the former passenger ticketing and waiting area, has been adapted for use by the local chamber of commerce and as a local history museum. It was built in 1911-12 by the Prescott and Northwestern Railroad, which interconnected with the Missouri-Pacific Railroad at Prescott. The line had passenger service until 1945.

Memphis, Paris and Gulf Railroad Depot

The Memphis, Paris and Gulf Railroad Depot is a historic train station at the junction of Whitaker Avenue and Frisco Street in Ashdown, Arkansas. It is a single-story wood frame structure in the Plain Traditional style with Folk Victorian elements. Notable decorative elements include brackets in the eaves and Stick-style woodwork in the gables. The exterior of the building is essentially original, while the interior has been extensively altered by multiple uses. The station was built in 1908 by the Memphis, Paris and Gulf Railroad, a regional railroad whose goal was to connect Memphis, Tennessee and Paris, Texas. The railroad was operated, under a variety of names and owners, offering passenger service until 1947 and freight service until 1993.

Cricket and Crest Tunnels

The Cricket Tunnel and Crest Tunnel are a pair of railroad tunnels in northern Arkansas, near the city of Omaha in Boone County. The Crest Tunnel, at 3,500 feet (1,100 m) is the longest tunnel in Arkansas, and is its only curved tunnel. Both tunnels were built by the White River Division of the Missouri Pacific Railroad in the early 20th century. The tunnels were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

The Hot Springs Railroad Warehouse Historic District encompasses three early 20th-century brick warehouses in Hot Springs, Arkansas, which serve as a reminder of the importance of rail transport to the economic success of the resort community. Located at 401-439 Broadway are three single-story utilitarian brick buildings, constructed between 1900 and 1920. 421 Broadway, at the center was originally built by the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1915 to serve as its main freight depot in Hot Springs.

St. Louis San Francisco (Frisco) Railway Coach No. 661

The St. Louis San Francisco (Frisco) Railway Coach #661 is a historic railroad car. It was built in 1883 by the Barney and Smith Car Company of Dayton, Ohio, and served for many years on the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway. When built, it had wood sides and a canvas top; in 1936 the wood siding was covered with steel, and the roof is now a rounded fiberglass mesh that resembles the original canvas. It was acquired in 1996 by the Paperton Junction Southern Railway and restored. It is a rare surviving example of a 19th-century railroad car, with a separate compartment for African-American travelers.

St. Louis Southwestern Railway (Cotton Belt Route) Relief Train

The St. Louis Southwestern Railway Relief Train is a railroad rescue and recovery train, its elements now on display at the Arkansas Railroad Museum in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The train's principal feature is a large steam crane, built by Industrial Brownhoist of Bay City, Michigan in 1940. Other elements of the train include a boom car, generator flat, kitchen car, tool car, and crew sleeper. The boom car, a low gondola car, was attached to the train below the projecting section of the train; the other elements of the train supported the crew and the operation of the crane to clear derailments. The relief train was assembled by the St. Louis Southwestern Railway, and remained in active service until 1996, when it was given to the museum.

United States Army Snow Plow No. SN-87

The United States Army Snow Plow No. SN-87 is a historic railroad snow plow, that is part of the collection of the Arkansas Railroad Museum in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. It is a 74,000-lb. wedge plow, mounted on a pair of trucks, built in 1953 by the O.F. Jordan Company of East Chicago, Indiana, under contract to the United States Army. It was used by the Army until 1990, when it was donated to the museum.
