DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) is a sound quality improvement technology for lossy compressed music files developed by Sony.
Introduced in 2006, [1] DSEE is included in Sony's digital Walkman products and freeware SonicStage CP (version 4.2 or higher), x-app, and Music Center for PC. In operation, it analyzes irreversibly compressed music files such as MP3, ATRAC3, AAC, and WMA, and performs predictive calculations to compensate for high-frequency sounds lost due to compression, thereby improving sound quality.
If the playing music on a Walkman has a high sound quality (bit rate), or if the sound quality is too low, the system determines that it cannot be enhanced and DSEE is temporarily disabled to save battery.
DSEE HX appears on high-resolution audio compatible devices, such as the F880 and ZX1 series Walkman players, Xperia smartphones, and version 2.x of Music Center for PC. However some products like the HAP-Z1ES hard disk player come with normal DSEE. [2]
The Walkman A30 and WM1 series that appeared in 2016 have been expanded to a maximum of 192kHz/32bit, and higher-end models such as the WM1 series and ZX series can now select from 5 modes for each song. The Walkman A50 series is equipped with artificial intelligence technology that automatically determines the type of music being processed and improves high-frequency correction performance.
DSEE Extreme is installed in the WH-1000XM5 to 1000X series of wireless headphones with noise canceling function announced on August 7, 2020, [3] the WF-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM4 series of wireless earbuds, the HT-A9 home theater system, and the HT-A7000, HT-A5000, and HT-A3000 sound bars. It is an improved version of the aforementioned DSEE HX equipped with AI technology. [4] It also now supports transmission using the LDAC codec.
Sony 1, 5 and 10 series Xperia smartphones feature DSEE Ultimate since the 1 II in 2020. It uses AI from the DSEE HX and DSEE Extreme to process frequency bands up to 192 kHz. In addition, it also applies the same 24-bit depth expansion as Extreme, [5] making it compatible with streaming services, videos, and games.
The DSEE Ultimate technology has also been installed into the A100 and ZX500 series Walkman as an update in October 2020. However it only applies when using the W. (Walkman) music playing software and a wired connection. The frequency band processing is 192 kHz, the same as Xperia, but it can also extend the depth to 32 bits. For apps other than W. music, DSEE HX equipped with AI technology operates as before. [6] Walkman WM1ZM2 and WM1AM2 released in March 2022 and A300 and ZX700 series released in January 2023 are equipped with DSEE Ultimate and it now applies to all apps and both wired and Bluetooth connections.
Walkman, is a brand of portable audio players manufactured and marketed by Japanese company Sony since 1979. The current flagship product as of 2022 is the WM1ZM2 player.
Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding (ATRAC) is a family of proprietary audio compression algorithms developed by Sony. MiniDisc was the first commercial product to incorporate ATRAC, in 1992. ATRAC allowed a relatively small disc like MiniDisc to have the same running time as CD while storing audio information with minimal perceptible loss in quality. Improvements to the codec in the form of ATRAC3, ATRAC3plus, and ATRAC Advanced Lossless followed in 1999, 2002, and 2006 respectively.
Bravia is a brand of Sony Visual Products Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony, and is used for its television products. Its name is a backronym for "Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture". All Sony high-definition flat-panel LCD televisions in North America have carried the logo for BRAVIA since 2005. BRAVIA replaces the "LCD WEGA," which Sony used for their LCD TVs until summer 2005. In 2014, BRAVIA was made into a subsidiary rather than simply a brand of products.
The Walkman A810 series is a portable media player designed by Sony. It was a flagship model in the Walkman digital player family. The model debuted in Asia in 2007, and then became available in North America. This series updates the previous Walkman A800 of the Walkman A Series, with the same hardware but different on-PC music management program.
SensMe is a proprietary music mood and tempo detection system created by Sony Corporation, and employed in numerous Sony branded products, including in some Walkman digital music players, the Media Go application, the PlayStation Portable, and Sony Ericsson and Sony Xperia handsets. It is named Omakase Channel (おまかせチャンネル) in Japan.
The Tablet S is a tablet computer released by Sony in September 2011. Featuring a "unique asymmetric design", the Tablet S runs Google's Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system and features a 9.4 in (240 mm) multitouch display, 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor, Wi-Fi ability, front- and rear-facing cameras, Bluetooth, and an infrared sensor. It is also configured with access to the Sony Entertainment Network and is PlayStation Certified and DLNA compatible. Tablet S was Sony's first modern tablet computer. It was succeeded by the Xperia Tablet S, which would be created by Sony's new subsidiary Sony Mobile.
The Walkman S Series is a line of portable media players designed and developed by Sony, currently marketed in Japan. The S Series made their debut in the fall of 2006 and later were launched in other regions. Although the first generation of models had generic displays, all next generations of players of the S Series had TFT color displays and supported video playback. They were slightly cheaper than the flagship A Series but had more features than the E Series. The S Series was discontinued outside Japan in 2012 and continues solely in the domestic market.

LDAC is a proprietary audio coding technology developed by Sony, which allows streaming high-resolution audio over Bluetooth connections at up to 990 kbps at 32 bits/96 kHz. It is used by various products, including headphones, earphones, smartphones, portable media players, active speakers, and home theaters.

The A Series has been marketed since 2005, initially as the top spec Walkman players and since 2014 as a mid-range following the introduction of the ZX Series.
