The Distinguish Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS) is the second highest constitutionally recognized honour in Rivers State, Nigeria, only shared with the Deputy Governor of Rivers State. [1] [2] [3] It is given to individuals who have brought about lasting impact, positive change and achieved greatness in their respective fields. The authority for the title to be conferred on an individual is held only by the Governor of Rivers State. [4]

It is bordered on the north by Edo State, the east by Anambra and Rivers states, and the south by Bayelsa State while to the west is the Bight of Benin which covers about 160 kilometres of the state's coastline. The state was initially created with 12 local government areas in 1991, but was later expanded to 19 and now has 25 local government areas. Andoni is a Local Government Area in Rivers State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is located in Ngo-Town. It has an area of over 233 km2 and a population of over 311,500 at the last census. The postal code of the area is 504. The current Executive Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area is Hon. Lazarus Nteogwuile Gogoteh. The Andoni people are of Ijaw ancestry and belong to the Obolo clan, an ijo subgroup. Andoni shares boundaries with Khana to the North, Opobo Nkoro to the east, Bonny to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.

Adawari Michael Pepple was elected Senator for the Rivers South East constituency of Rivers State, Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He took office on 29 May 1999.

The governor of Rivers State is the chief executive of the Rivers State government and is one of the governors of the thirty-six states of Nigeria. The governor is supported by the deputy governor, both popularly elected for a term of four years. The governor, as head of the executive branch, has the power to appoint commissioners responsible for each of the state's ministries, the heads of parastatals, judicial officers and the state-owned bodies with specific regulatory or administrative duties. They cannot be a member of the state's House of Assembly.

The Executive Council, also known as the Governor's Cabinet is the highest administrative decision-making authority in Rivers State. It is part of the executive branch which is the most influential branch of the state government. It comprises the governor, deputy governor, Secretary to the State Government, chief of staff, commissioners and special advisers. All of its members excluding the Deputy Governor are appointed by the Governor of Rivers State and confirmed by the House of the Assembly of the state.

The 2019 Cross River State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. Incumbent PDP Governor Benedict Ayade won re-election for a second term, defeating APC's John Owan Enoh, and several minor party candidates.

The 2015 Cross River State gubernatorial election was the 9th gubernatorial election of Cross River State. Held on April 11, 2015, the People's Democratic Party nominee Benedict Ayade won the election, defeating Odey Ochicha of the All Progressives Congress.

The 2015 Niger State gubernatorial election was the 8th gubernatorial election of Niger State. Held on April 11, 2015, the All Progressives Congress nominee Abubakar Sani Bello won the election, defeating Umar Nasko of the People's Democratic Party.

The 2015 Taraba State gubernatorial election was the 6th gubernatorial election of Taraba State. Held on April 11, 2015 and April 25, 2015 due to inconclusive, the People's Democratic Party nominee Darius Ishaku won the election, defeating Aisha Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress.

The 2023 Cross River State gubernatorial election was held on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Cross River State, concurrent with elections to the Cross River State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Benedict Ayade was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Former Senator Bassey Otu held the office for the APC by a 17.5% margin over PDP nominee — Senator Sandy Ojang Onor.
