Yarmouth is a town, port and civil parish in the west of the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England. The town is named for its location at the mouth of the small Western Yar river. The town grew near the river crossing, originally a ferry, which was replaced with a road bridge in 1863.

The town sits on the San Juan ridge separating the Middle and South Forks of the Yuba River, approximately 26 miles (42 km) northeast of Nevada City. During the First English Civil War Lincoln was besieged between 3 May and 6 May 1644 by Parliamentarian forces of the Eastern Association of counties under the command of the Earl of Manchester. On the first day, the Parliamentarians took the lower town. The Royalist defenders retreated into the stronger fortifications of the upper town, which encompassed and incorporated Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral. The siege ended four days later when the Parliamentarian soldiers stormed the castle, taking prisoner the Royalist governor, Sir Francis Fane, and what remained of his garrison.
The Dalison Baronetcy, of Laughton in the County of Lincoln, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 29 June 1611 for Sir Roger Dalison, Lieutenant-General of the Ordnance, and Member of Parliament for Malmesbury. He purchased the baronetcy but was unable or unwilling to pay the price. He was also found to have embezzled large amounts of money from the Ordnance, and died in Fleet Prison as a debtor. After his death, a clerical error was discovered in the register of baronets, which meant that his surviving son, Thomas, could not automatically inherit the baronetcy. On 27 October 1624 it was recreated for Thomas Dalison. The title became extinct when Sir Thomas was killed at the Battle of Naseby in 1645.

Several valuable quartz leads were discovered in the area, and the diggings were worked with significant profit. In that year it was considered to be a settlement of importance, crowded with miners, along with Rich Flat, Randolph Flat, Texas Flat, Newtown, Bridgeport, Indian Flat, Anthony House, Gass Flat, and Lander's Bar. The Kentucky Flat Schoolhouse might be the "oldest continuously used one-room schoolhouse in California".
