A differential is a gear train with three shafts that has the property that the rotational speed of one shaft is the average of the speeds of the others, or a fixed multiple of that average.

The Stig is a character from the British motoring television show Top Gear. Created by Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson and former producer Andy Wilman the character is a play on the anonymity of racing drivers' full-face helmets, with the running joke that nobody knows who or what is inside the Stig's racing suit. The Stig's primary role is setting lap times for cars tested on the show. Previously, he would also instruct celebrity guests, off-camera, for the show's "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" segment.

Top Gear was an American motoring television series, based on the BBC series of the same name. As with the original British version, the show had its own version of The Stig, an anonymous racing driver, and a celebrity guest was featured each week for the first two seasons. The show premiered on November 21, 2010, on History. Its most recent season, Season 6, began airing on April 26, 2016. On June 28, 2016, the BBC confirmed that the series had completed its contractual run on the History channel."
Sir Charles Dallison was a gentleman from Lincolnshire who served as an officer in the Royalist army during the English Civil War. He was also a serjeant-at-law, and in 1648 he published an often cited pamphlet justifying his reasons for supporting the Royalist cause.
The Dallison Baronetcy, of Greetwell in the County of Lincoln, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created in February 1644 for Robert Dallison, the son of Sir Charles Dallison, an officer in the Royalist Army during the Civil War. Sir Robert was himself a supporter of the Royalist cause. The title became extinct on the death of the fourth Baronet in circa 1720.

Kentucky Flat is a former settlement in Nevada County, California. Dating to 1850, it was first mined by settlers from the U.S. state of Kentucky. Several valuable quartz leads were discovered in the area, and the diggings were worked with significant profit. In that year, it was considered to be a settlement of importance, crowded with miners, along with Rich Flat, Randolph Flat, Texas Flat, Newtown, Bridgeport, Indian Flat, Anthony House, Gass Flat, and Lander's Bar. The Kentucky Flat Schoolhouse might be the "oldest continuously used one-room schoolhouse in California".

The programme was conceived in the wake of the departure of Clarkson, Hammond, May and Wilman from the BBC series Top Gear, and originally contracted with 36 episodes over three years.
