Dalton Smarsh (born c. 1950) is a former Canadian football player. He is known for his playing career at the University of Alberta, where he is described as "one of the most outstanding running backs in the history of Golden Bear football".

Smarsh played for the Alberta Golden Bears football team as a running back from 1972 to 1976. In 1972 the Bears won the CIAU Championship, and in 1974, he was a member of the CIAU All-Canadian team. Smarsh was also captain of the Golden Bears football team for four seasons and set many CIAU records. He graduated from the university with a Bachelor of Education degree. Though was selected in the 1976 CFL Draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 7th round, 61st overall, [1] Smarsh decided to pursue a career in education, and worked for Edmonton Public Schools where was a physical education teacher, also coaching high school sports. [2] He retired around 2007 from teaching. Smarsh has also served as offensive coordinator of the Golden Bears (1985) and as a coach of the Edmonton Wildcats. He won a championship with the Wildcats in 1983 and won the coach of the year award that same season. [3] In 2001, he was inducted into the University of Alberta's Sports Wall of Fame. [4] Smarsh was named head coach of the Edmonton Huskies in November 2007; he would serve in that capacity until he was let go in September 2009. [5] [6] [7]

Crandell was named the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player after the Stampeders won the 89th Grey Cup in 2001. He also won a Grey Cup championship with the Roughriders in 2007 as the team's backup quarterback.

Thomas Joseph John Higgins Jr. is the defensive coordinator for the Calgary Colts of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL). He has previously served as the Director of Officiating for the Canadian Football League (CFL) and is a former Canadian and American football player, head coach, and general manager.

Clare James Drake was a Canadian ice hockey coach. He was the most successful coach in Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's hockey history. In 28 years as the head coach of the University of Alberta men's ice hockey team, he coached the Alberta Golden Bears to six University Cup championships and 17 Canada West conference championships. The "dean of coaching," Clare developed the game for more than 40 years, coaching at the high school, university, Olympic and WHA level. The only university coach to win a national championship in both hockey and football in the same year (1967-1968), he was instrumental in the development of the National Coaching Certification and Coach Mentorship Programs. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Alberta Golden Bears football team represents the University of Alberta in the sport of Canadian football in U Sports. The Golden Bears have been in competition since 1910 and the team has won three Vanier Cup national championships, in 1967, 1972, and most recently in 1980. The Golden Bears have also won 18 Hardy Cup conference titles, second only to the Saskatchewan Huskies who have won 19 of them. The Golden Bears have also had three players win the Hec Crighton Trophy, with Mel Smith winning in 1971, Brian Fryer winning in 1975, and most recently Ed Ilnicki winning the award in 2017.
