Major League Lacrosse (MLL) was a men's field lacrosse league in the United States. The league's inaugural season was in 2001, making MLL the oldest professional field lacrosse league in North America. Teams have played anywhere from ten to 16 games in a summertime regular season. This is followed by a four-team playoff for the championship trophy, the Steinfeld Trophy, named after founder Jake Steinfeld. League attendance peaked at 6,417 in 2011 and the 2019 average was 4,587.
The Chesapeake Bayhawks were a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) professional men's field lacrosse team based in Annapolis, Maryland since 2010. They have played in the greater Baltimore metro area since the MLL's inaugural 2001 season, as the Baltimore Bayhawks from 2001–2006 and as the Washington Bayhawks from 2007–2009.
The New York Lizards, originally the Long Island Lizards, were a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team based in Hempstead, New York, located on Long Island. They are original members of the MLL. They lost the league's inaugural game on June 7, 2001 to the Baltimore Bayhawks, 16–13.
The Denver Outlaws were a Major League Lacrosse professional men's field lacrosse team based in Denver, Colorado, United States. They began playing in the MLL in 2006 as an expansion team.
Chris Garrity was a professional lacrosse goaltender with the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL). He retired from MLL on 19 January 2012. Coming out of high school, Chris' best sport was soccer where he excelled as a marking back. Despite being a better soccer player Chris decided to pursue lacrosse in college.
Joshua S. Sims is an American former professional lacrosse player. He played in Major League Lacrosse through 2013 and last played box lacrosse in the National Lacrosse League with the Philadelphia Wings in 2010. He starred as a member of the Princeton Tigers men's lacrosse team from 1997 through 2000. He is a two-time NCAA champion, three-time MLL champion, and one-time NLL champion.
Anthony Kelly is a retired professional lacrosse player that played on the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the MLL. He has also played for the Rochester Knighthawks and New York Titans in the NLL, the Kentucky Stickhorses in the NALL, and the Los Angeles Riptide, Chicago Machine, Rochester Rattlers, Ohio Machine, and Denver Outlaws of the MLL. He is a faceoff specialist and won a Bronze Medal with U.S. Men's National Indoor Team in 2007. He retired in April 2018.
Kyle Dixon is a professional lacrosse player with the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse. He played high school lacrosse for Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Maryland.
Peter Thomas Ricci is an American professional lacrosse player who plays for the Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse. Ricci played four years for Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania in 2005, after starring in football and lacrosse and running track. He finished his senior season at Loyola with a team leading 91 ground balls, and was the eleventh draft pick in the 2009 MLL Draft to the Chesapeake Bayhawks. After two seasons with the Bayhawks he was traded to the Boston Cannons in May 2011. He won consecutive championships in 2010 and 2011 with the Chesapeake Bayhawks and Boston Cannons respectively, attributing to the Cannons first Steinfeld Trophy in MLL history. He was also selected as an all-star in 2011 season. He was traded by the Boston Cannons to the Florida Launch in November 2013 along with Lee Coppersmith and the 12th overall draft prick in the 2014 draft for Brodie Merrill, Martin Cahill and the 37th overall draft pick in the 2014 draft. He signed a 2-year deal with the Florida Launch in January 2017. In February 2020 he was traded to the Philadelphia Barrage along with three draft picks in the 2020 MLL draft for Bryan Cole and Randy Staats.

The 2011 Chesapeake Bayhawks season was the 11th season for the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse. The defending Steinfeld Cup champions fell in the playoffs to the Boston Cannons in the 2011 MLL semifinals.
The 2012 Chesapeake Bayhawks season is the 12th season for the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse. The Bayhawks were looking to rebound after a semifinal loss in the 2011 MLL playoffs to Boston.
Brent Adams is a professional lacrosse player for the Cannons Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League and the New York Riptide of the National Lacrosse League. Adams was an All-American midfielder at Fairfield University and played for the United States men's national lacrosse team.
Steven Brooks is a professional lacrosse player that retired from the Atlas LC (PLL) of Premier Lacrosse League in 2019. Brooks was the 6th overall draft pick in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Chicago Machine. He played high school lacrosse for Libertyville High School in Libertyville, Illinois. He also attended a postgraduate year at Bridgton Academy. Brooks played college lacrosse at Syracuse University. In January 2020, Brooks was named assistant coach of the Atlas LC (PLL) in the professional lacrosse league PLL. He is the first ever PLL player turned coach in the league's history.
Brian Phipps is a professional lacrosse player for the Chesapeake Bayhawks of the Major League Lacrosse. He attended the University of Maryland where he was a USILA All-American, the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2007, and the University of Maryland Male Athlete of the Year as the Terrapins' goalkeeper. He was taken in the 9th round of the MLL Expansion Draft in 2011 by the Chesapeake Bayhawks. He also works as an assistant coach for the Georgetown Hoyas men’s lacrosse team.
The 2017 Major League Lacrosse season was the 17th season of Major League Lacrosse. Featuring the same nine teams as 2016, the season began on April 22. All four games played on opening weekend were won by the road team and decided by one goal, two in overtime. The season culminated in the championship game on August 19 in Frisco, Texas at The Ford Center at The Star. In a rematch of the 2016 championship game, the Ohio Machine defeated the Denver Outlaws 17–12, capturing their first Steinfeld Cup in franchise history.
The 2019 Major League Lacrosse season was the 19th season of Major League Lacrosse. The regular season began on Friday, May 31 and ended on Sunday, September 22. It was the first time the league would ever begin its season after Memorial Day, allowing all players selected in the collegiate draft to play a full season. 2019 also marks the first time each team would play 16 games. The league has played a 14-game schedule since 2012. Additionally, the league returned to a Championship Weekend format instead of a two-week postseason for the first time since 2013. Championship Weekend was hosted in Denver with two semifinal games on Friday, October 4 and the 19th Steinfeld Cup was hosted at Dick's Sporting Goods Park October 6 on ESPN2.
The 2019 Chesapeake Bayhawks season is the nineteenth season for the Bayhawks franchise of Major League Lacrosse, and tenth season using the 'Chesapeake' Bayhawks moniker. It is Dave Cottle's second season of his second tenure as head coach of the team. In 2018, Cottle led the Bayhawks to their first playoff appearance in five years.
The 2020 Major League Lacrosse season was the 20th season of Major League Lacrosse. Each of the six teams were slated to play a ten-game regular season starting on May 30, until the COVID-19 pandemic suspended the season. On July 2, the league announced teams would play a five-game regular season over the course of a quarantined week in Annapolis, Maryland at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the home of the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The regular season was scheduled to begin play on Saturday, July 18 with a four-team postseason the next weekend on July 25–26.
The MLL–PLL merger represented a unification of the two major professional outdoor lacrosse leagues in the United States at the time: Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL). Initial terms of the merger were released on the morning of December 16, 2020. The two leagues agreed to unite under the "Premier Lacrosse League" name and logo, operating as a tour-based model and removing the last of the hometown-based professional field lacrosse teams in the United States. The Boston Cannons would be the sole MLL team identity to play in the PLL for the 2021 season, rebranding as the Cannons Lacrosse Club.
