Dan Farr (born February 15, 1967) is an entrepreneur, known for co-founding DAZ 3D, [1] a 3D content and software company, and for founding Salt Lake Comic Con. [2]

Career

Dan Farr co-founded DAZ 3D Inc. in 2000. [3] DAZ 3D is a company that develops and publishes 3D digital content and software for creative professionals and hobbyists. [4] Two of the products Farr helped create while at DAZ were Daz Studio and Genesis Platform. [5]

In 2005 Farr, along with his partners at DAZ 3D, created an illustrated Christmas book entitled Mr. Finnegan’s Giving Chest using DAZ 3D's products and featured actor Dick Van Dyke. [6]

Shortly after leaving DAZ 3D in the spring of 2012, Farr began planning Salt Lake Comic Con, a biannual comic book convention. The name of the convention was changed to FanX after a lawsuit was filed by San Diego Comic Con, and the San Diego Con was awarded $20,000 in damages. [7]

The first convention took place at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. The second event, Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience, was inaugurated in April 2014.

AstroPrint

AstroPrint is a cloud platform and application marketplace designed for consumer 3D printing by 3DaGoGo Inc., a private San Diego based technology company.

Artec 3D is a developer and manufacturer of 3D scanning hardware and software. The company is headquartered in Luxembourg, with offices also in the United States and Russia (Moscow). Artec 3D's products and services are used in various industries, including engineering, healthcare, media and design, entertainment, education, fashion and historic preservation. In 2013, Artec 3D launched an automated full-body 3D scanning system, Shapify.me, that creates 3D portraits called “Shapies.”

SaltCON is the largest Board Game Convention in Utah held annually in Layton at the Davis Conference Center with the "aim of bringing people together with games." The event is family friendly, and focuses on hobby and designer board games. Unlike many other conventions, the board game halls are open 24 hours for attendees to play all night long. The event continues to grow in popularity, in large part due to its friendly atmosphere, and volunteer nature. The event had over 1100 attendees in 2016, and continues to grow every year. In 2019 they had over 1900 attendees.

Cura (software) software

Cura is an open source 3D printer slicing application. It was created by David Braam who was later employed by Ultimaker, a 3D printer manufacturing company, to maintain the software. Cura is available under LGPLv3 license. Cura was initially released under the open source Affero General Public License version 3, but on 28 September 2017 the license was changed to LGPLv3. This change allowed for more integration with third-party CAD applications. Development is hosted on GitHub. Ultimaker Cura is used by over one million users worldwide, handles 1.4 million print jobs per week, and is the preferred 3D printing software for Ultimaker 3D printers, but it can be used with other printers as well.

3D selfie

A 3D selfie is a 3D-printed scale replica of a person or their face. These three-dimensional selfies are also known as 3D portraits, 3D figurines, 3D-printed figurines, mini-me figurines and miniature statues. In 2014 a first 3D printed bust of a President, Barack Obama, was made. 3D-digital-imaging specialists used handheld 3D scanners to create an accurate representation of the President.

3YOURMIND is a Berlin-based 3D printing software company, founded by Aleksander Ciszek and Stephan Kuehr. The company was launched in 2014.
