Dan Kamal (born 1951) is the former play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Thrashers. He served as the team's voice prior to their move to Winnipeg for the 2011-12 NHL season.

Broadcasting career

Dan Kamal was the play-by-play voice for all Thrashers radio broadcasts and oversaw radio operations for the Thrashers. [1] He had been partnered with Billy Jaffe and former Thrasher Jeff Odgers.

As Senior Director of Radio Operations, he was responsible for programming, production and distribution of Thrashers broadcasts for the team’s radio network, which included flagship station WCNN "680,The Fan" and affiliates in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. In addition to his radio duties, Kamal was a regular contributor to the team's official web site, providing interviews and editorial content.

Kamal joined the Thrashers prior to their 1999–2000 inaugural season and his role with the team marks the second time he has broadcast professional hockey in Atlanta. He is the former radio and television play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Knights of the former International Hockey League, a position he held from 1994–96. Prior to the Knights, he was the radio and TV play-by-play voice of the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League from 1984–94. [1] Dan was also the radio play-by-play voice of the Harrisburg Senators of minor league baseball's AA Eastern League from its inaugural, modern-day season in 1987 until the mid-1990s.

Following the Knights, Kamal joined Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., in 1997 as a writer and field producer for the former CNN/Sports Illustrated cable network. While with the network, he also served as a fill-in anchor on CNN Headline Sports. During the 2004–2005 NHL lockout, he returned to Turner Broadcasting as a freelance reporter/editor for the CNN Radio Network. He also served as a speaker for the Atlanta Hawks Read to Achieve program that reached 122 schools and 61,000 students. [1]

As of 2012, Kamal now works for CNN as a part-time news writer. On January 8, 2013, the Columbus Dispatch reported (and Kamal himself confirmed via Twitter) that he has been hired by Fox Sports Ohio and the Columbus Blue Jackets as their in-studio pre- and post-game host. [2] [3]

In his broadcasting career Kamal also has covered the 1996 Summer Olympic Games for Atlanta’s WGST Radio and has served as studio host for the Atlanta Falcons Radio Network and PGA Tour Radio.

Personal

Kamal earned a bachelor's degree in communication studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he also worked on the school's radio station, WMUA and a master's degree in communications from Boston University.

Sam Rosen is an American sportscaster and Hockey Hall of Famer, best known as the primary play-by-play announcer for the National Hockey League's New York Rangers games on MSG. On June 8, 2008, Rosen was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. On November 14, 2016, Rosen was enshrined as the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award winner for outstanding contributions as a broadcaster by the Hockey Hall of Fame. Rosen is currently the longest-tenured active broadcaster in the NHL.

Derek MacKenzie Canadian ice hockey player

Derek MacKenzie is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who most notably played for the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted 128th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He also played in the American Hockey League (AHL) for Columbus' and Atlanta's farm teams, the Syracuse Crunch and Chicago Wolves respectively. While with the Wolves, MacKenzie was part of a Calder Cup championship team in 2002 and also spent time as the team's captain. He set franchise records in career shorthanded goals for both AHL teams. His father, Ken MacKenzie, is the assistant general manager of the Ontario Hockey League's Sudbury Wolves. He is currently an assistant coach for the Florida Panthers, whom he previously served as captain of from 2016 to 2018.

John Kenneth "Jiggs" McDonald is a sportscaster who has done play-by-play announcing for NHL games for more than 50 years. In 1990, McDonald received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award from the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Jeff Odgers Canadian ice hockey player

John Jeffrey Odgers is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played over 800 games in the National Hockey League for the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and the Atlanta Thrashers. Mainly an enforcer, Odgers compiled a total of 2364 penalty minutes in 821 regular season games. He also scored 75 goals and 70 assists for 145 points. Odgers served as captain of the San Jose Sharks for the latter half of the 1994-95 season and the entire 1995–96 season. He was also known for his mustache while with the Colorado Avalanche and the Atlanta Thrashers. Odgers is the Sharks’ all-time leader in penalty minutes with 1,001 penalty minutes and remains the Atlanta Thrashers' all-time single season leader in penalty minutes, which he set in the 2000-01 season.

Daniel Patrick Kelly is an American sportscaster. The son of St. Louis Blues broadcaster Dan Kelly, he is also the nephew of hockey and baseball broadcaster Hal Kelly, and the younger brother of current St. Louis Blues TV broadcaster John Kelly. He is the former television play-by-play voice for Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer on ESPN+, announcing on October 25, 2019, that his time with the Fire had ended.
