Daniel E. Ponder Jr. (born September 13,1954) is an American politician. He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1996 to 2000. He is a member of the Republican party. [1] In 2003,he received the Profile in Courage Award from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. [2] He was elected mayor of Donalsonville,Georgia in 2013. [3] [4]

Handel succeeded Tom Price,who resigned from the seat following his confirmation as United States Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Trump Administration. The runoff election was necessary when no individual candidate earned the majority of votes in the election on April 18. Ossoff received 48.1% of the vote in the first round,followed by Handel with 19.8%.
