Dane Maxwell is an American businessman and Mississippi politician,serving on the Mississippi Public Service Commission from 2019 to 2023. Prior to that,he was the Mayor of Pascagoula,Mississippi.

He was elected as the mayor of Pascagoula,Mississippi in 2016. He ran for the Southern District seat for the Mississippi Public Service Commission in 2019 as a Republican,defeating Democrat Connie Moran,the former mayor of Ocean Springs,Mississippi. [3] He won 63% to 37%. [3] He resigned his position as mayor to become commissioner in 2020. [4] He was elected chairman of the commission. [5] During the campaign,he promised to listen to customer complaints and tackle robocalls. [6] He ran for reelection in 2023,losing to primary opponent Nelson Wayne Carr. [7] His opponent Carr alleged that Maxwell had violated campaign finance law during the election. After an investigation by the Mississippi Ethics Commission,the accusations were unfounded. [8]

Rubel Lex Phillips was an American politician and lawyer. He grew up poor in Alcorn County,Mississippi,and graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Hailing from a politically active family and initially a member of the Democratic Party,he served as a circuit court clerk from 1952 to 1956 and chaired the Mississippi Public Service Commission from 1956 to 1958. In 1962 Phillips joined the Republican Party. He ran as a Republican in the 1963 Mississippi gubernatorial election,the first person to do so since 1947. Supporting a platform of racial segregation and opposition to the presidential administration of John F. Kennedy,he lost,garnering only 38 percent of the vote.
The Alabama Public Service Commission,commonly called the PSC,was established by an act of the Alabama Legislature in 1915 to primarily replace the State Railroad Commission. The PSC's responsibility was expanded in 1920 to include regulating and setting rates that utility companies charge their customers for electricity. The legislature expanded the PSC's responsibilities in later years to include those companies that provide gas,water,and communications,as well as transportation common carriers such as trucking and air carriers.
