Daniele Lupo (born 6 May 1991) is an Italian beach volleyball player. He competed for Italy at the 2016 Summer Olympics [1] and at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Along with partner, Paolo Nicolai, he won the silver medal in men's beach volleyball in 2016. [2] He was the flag bearer for Italy during the closing ceremony. [3]
Lupo was born in Rome to an Italian father and a Kazakh mother. [4]
Lupo debuted in the international beach volley circuit on 18 May 2010 in Rome, and obtained his first podium in a World Tour stage at Beijing in May 2012, together with Paolo Nicolai. The two finished fifth in the 2012 Olympic Games and ninth in the 2013 World Championships. In 2014 Lupo and Nicolai were the first Italians to win a European Championship in the tournament held in Cagliari.
In 2015, Lupo was diagnosed with a bone tumor, but was completely cured. The following year, Lupo and Nicolai won the European Championship again, and they were the first Italian team ever to reach a final in the Summer Olympics.
Philip "Phil" Peter Dalhausser is a Swiss-born American former professional beach volleyball player, who played as a blocker. He and his former playing partner, Todd Rogers, were the 2007 AVP Tour and FIVB world champions.
The 2016 Summer Paralympics, the 15th Summer Paralympic Games, were a major international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities governed by the International Paralympic Committee, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 to 18 September 2016. Alison Conte Cerutti is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. He plays as a blocker. In 2011, along with Emanuel Rego he won the Swatch FIVB World Tour in Prague, Czech Republic. and the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships in Netherlands. and the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio alongside teammate Bruno Schmidt. In 2019, Alison partnered with Álvaro Morais Filho. The team won their first gold medal at the FIVB Kuala Lumpur event. The duo also competed in the Tokyo 2020 journey. Since 2021 Alison has been playing with Guto Carvalhaes.
Julia Hassler is an Olympic and national-record holding swimmer from Liechtenstein. She swam for and was Liechtenstein closing-ceremony flagbearer at the 2012 Olympics. She has also swam for Liechtenstein at several other international competitions including the: World Championships (2011), Games of the Small States of Europe, European Championships (2014), Short Course Worlds and Youth Olympics (2010).

Bruno Oscar Schmidt is a Brazilian beach volleyball player. He plays as a right-side defender. Bruno is the nephew of the former Brazilian basketball player Oscar Schmidt and of the TV news announcer Tadeu Schmidt. In 2010, he was named the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Most Improved Player. He was also named the Best Defensive Player in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Schmidt won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships with his teammate Alison Cerutti in the Netherlands. He won the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics with Alison Cerutti.

Italy competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Italian athletes have appeared in every Summer Olympics edition of the modern era, with the disputed exception of the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis where one Italian may have participated.
Volleyball at the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, Japan. Two sitting volleyball team events were held, one for men and one for women.
