Danny Porte (born 18 June 1975 in England) is an English former rugby union player who played for Glasgow Warriors at the Tighthead Prop position.

Porte began rugby playing for school team Dover Grammar. [1] He left the school to go to Exeter University where he played rugby for the university team and was in the winning Exeter University team in the British University Sports Association final against Northumbria at Twickenham.[ citation needed ]

Porte began his professional career with Glasgow Warriors in 1996. [2] He was on the bench for Glasgow's European Conference match against Montferrand on 19 October 1996; and was on the bench for Glasgow's game against Newport RFC on 28 October 1996. [3] He came off the bench for Glasgow in their Heineken Cup home match against London Wasps in Season 1997–98.

At the time he was playing for amateur side Glasgow Academicals [4] before they merged with Glasgow High Kelvinside. Porte then played for the merged team Glasgow Hawks.

In 1998 he joined Watsonians RFC. [5]

He played for Waterloo in 2000. [6]

He played for Exeter Chiefs [2] gaining over 100 caps for the club. [7] [8]

In 2004, he was a teacher for Devon County Council. [9]

He moved to the Cayman Islands in 2006 [2] where he had a spell teaching. [10]

He also had a stint in France. [10]

In 2008 he played for Launceston [2] however he was released by them in January 2009. [2]

He joined Plymouth Albion in January 2009. [2] [11]

He played for the Barbarians in 2009 against a Combined Services team. [12] [13] [14]

He played for Newton Abbot in 2011. [15]

Porte left Newton Abbot RFC to go to New Zealand in the Summer of 2013. [16] Porte is now coaching in Christchurch, New Zealand [17] for Christchurch Boys' High School.

Devon League 1 is an English level eight rugby union league for clubs based in Devon. The champions are promoted to Cornwall/Devon and the runner-up plays the second team from Cornwall League 1, with the winning team gaining promotion. Up until the end of the 2017–18 season, teams were relegated to Devon League 2 but since that league has been abolished there is currently no relegation.

Alan Brown is a former Scotland Club XV international rugby union player for Glasgow Warriors, who played at the Tighthead Prop position, although he could also be used in the Back Row if necessitated. Alan also went on to be a very successful coach after his player and assistant coach days. In 2018 he moved to Strathmore RFC, and in his first season they won the league and gained promotion as well as the quarter-finals of the Scottish cup. Alan then returned to Dundee rugby as head coach for the latter 2020 season. The team competes in the Scottish National League Division One.

Colin Stewart is a former Scotland Under 21 international rugby union player who played with Glasgow Warriors and Border Reivers. His regular playing position was Lock.

Gary Kingdom is an English rugby union player who can play in a variety of positions most notably at Full back or Centre. He is currently playing for Taunton Titans in National League 2 South but has played higher level rugby for both Exeter Chiefs and Plymouth Albion as well as representing the Devon county rugby side with whom he has won the County Championship twice. Kingdom has become an excellent points kicker over his career and is, the second highest all-time points scorer in National League 2 South with over 1,900 points for Taunton. As well as playing, Kingdom is also employed by the RFU as a community rugby coach for the South Devon region.

Nat Saumi, real name Nacenieli, is a retired Fijian rugby union player who is currently a coach. A versatile back, Nat could play at fly-half, centre or full back. Despite having offers to play Premiership rugby, Nat spent his career in England playing for south-west clubs, most notably with Penzance & Newlyn and Plymouth, whom he also coached. An outstanding points scorer both in terms of kicking and tries, Nat became one of the most prolific points scorers of all-time in National League 2 South with over 700 points, including a divisional record of 374 points in a season, achieved in 2001 while playing for Penzance-Newlyn. As well as playing club rugby, Nat has also represented Fiji Sevens, Barbarians and Cornwall with whom he won the Bill Beaumont Cup back in 1999.

James Tucker is a retired English rugby union player who used to play at fly-half and centre. Known for his try scoring, Tucker spent the majority of his career at hometown club Launceston. He was also capped 50 times by Cornwall and was part of the side that won the 1999 Bill Beaumont Cup. Since retiring he has balanced his time as a dairy farmer with coaching the Launceston Colts. In 2015 Tucker was appointed as head coach of Launceston.

The Devon Senior Cup is an annual rugby union league and cup club competition organized by the Devon Rugby Football Union. It was first introduced in the 1886-87 season and the inaugural competition was won by Tiverton. During the early years of the cup the format changed several times from a knock-out competition to a league format, then to hybrid league/cup, then back to being a knock-out cup once again. The competition also was had periods of inactivity, with World War I preventing play for a number of seasons and then the cup being cancelled in the 1930s before being reintroduced for the 1969-70 season when it was won by St. Luke's College. The Havill Plate was introduced in the 1970s for teams knocked out of the first round of the cup which would continue until 1999. Competitions similar to the Havill Plate were introduced in 2009 for teams that got knocked out of the earlier stages of the cup were introduced - plate and vase - but these were discontinued due to a lack of interest by the clubs involved.

Matthew Shepherd is an English and Cornish rugby union player who currently plays at scrum-half or full back for Redruth in National League 2 South, having previously played for Plymouth Albion in National League 1. An extremely reliable points scorer with a knack for scoring important tries, he was instrumental in Cornwall's County Championship victories in 2015 and 2016 and has also been capped by England Counties XV. As well as playing union, Shepherd has played summer rugby league for the Cornish Rebels.

Alex Ducker is an English and Cornish professional rugby union & rugby league player who plays as a winger or full back. He is currently playing at Plymouth Albion having signed for the club in the summer of 2019 from Camborne. An extremely gifted try scorer who can also kick points, he is most comfortable on the wing but can also play at full back. During his career he has led a nomadic existence which has seen him play for all of the top club sides in Cornwall including a stint with the Cornish Pirates. Ducker has been capped by the Cornwall senior rugby union side and has played summer rugby league with the Cornish Rebels, as well as experiencing Premiership Rugby Sevens with the Exeter Chiefs.

Ryan Westren is a Cornish rugby union player who is currently a player-coach at Launceston, where he plays at outside centre. A club legend at Launceston, he previously played professional rugby union with Cornish Pirates and London Scottish, as well as captaining Cornwall in the county championships. His brother, Murray Westren, is also a rugby player, while their father, Phil Westren, played for Cornish Pirates when they were known as Penzance/Newlyn.

Ben Blain is a professional rugby union referee who represents the Scottish Rugby Union.
