Cruzeiro Esporte Clube is a Brazilian professional football club, based in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Although competing in a number of different sports, Cruzeiro is mostly known for its association football team. It plays in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the top tier of the Brazilian football league system, as well as in the Campeonato Mineiro, the state of Minas Gerais's premier state league.

The Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa, also known as Taça de Prata, or nicknamed Robertão, was an association football competition contested in Brazil between 1967 and 1970 among soccer teams from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais and Paraná states. It was an important soccer tournament, being considered a predecessor to the Brazilian Championship induced in 1971. Thus in 2010 the Brazilian Football Confederation decided to consider the winners of the Robertão as Brazilian champions. The 1st edition of the tournament was organized by Federação de Futebol do Estado do Rio de Janeiro and Federação Paulista de Futebol.
Manoel Rezende de Mattos Cabral, known as Nelinho, is a former Brazilian association footballer who played as right back. He played for several clubs in his home country and abroad, including Belo Horizonte rivals Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro. Nelinho also represented the Brazil national team in two FIFA World Cups.

The Taça Minas Gerais is a traditional football tournament played in the Minas Gerais state in Brazil. From 1973 through 1977 and then in 1980 and 1981, was a separate competition. In 1979 and from 1982 to 1987, it was played as one of the phases in the Campeonato Mineiro, like the Taça Guanabara in the Campeonato Carioca. The tournament was not played again until 1999, but only teams from the interior of Minas Gerais participated and the winner earned itself a berth in the Copa do Brasil. Since 2004, any team from the Campeonato Mineiro's three divisions have been eligible. The winner also gets a berth in the Copa do Brasil as Minas Gerais are allowed five, the other four go to the top four finishers of the Campeonato Mineiro.
Ramon Menezes Hubner, simply known as Ramon Menezes or just Ramon, is a Brazilian professional football manager and former player who played as an attacking midfielder. He is the current manager of the Brazilian under-20 national team.

Clube Atlético Mineiro, also known simply as Atlético Mineiro or Atlético, is a club from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The club's history starts in its founding, in 1908, up to present day. The team was founded on 25 March 25, 1908 by twenty-two students from Belo Horizonte, led by Margival Mendes Leal and Mário Toledo.
The rivalry between América Futebol Clube and Clube Atlético Mineiro, named as "Clássico das Multidões" and also called "Galo versus Coelho", is a football rivalry from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The rivalry has a 110-year history, since first match happened in 1913, and it was considered the biggest derby of Minas Gerais for decades. Since América fell back, due to initially refusing to become a professional club, and Cruzeiro surpassed Coelho in popularity – and later, in titles – the derby lost its status as the most important one in the state. However, the rivalry between América and Atlético continued through the years, in decisive matches in the Campeonato Mineiro, in encounters for the Campeonato Brasileiro and even in the Copa Libertadores, in 2022.
