Dark Tea is an American, Brooklyn-based music project, founded in 2016 by singer-songwriter Gary Canino. [1] Dark Tea has released two full length albums and an EP.
Before founding Dark Tea in 2016, Gary Canino performed in the Brooklyn-based quartet Rips. [2] In 2017, Dark Tea released the full-length self-titled album Dark Tea, as well as a digital single entitled Bright Flame. Dark Tea's debut album was partially mixed by Jarvis Taveniere of the band Woods and it was mastered by Mikey Young of the band Total Control. [3] The album's lead single "Providence Sky" was premiered by CoupDeMain Magazine and the music video was premiered by Impose Magazine. [4] [5] "Providence Sky" featured guest vocals from Portland-based singer-songwriter Alexandra Savior. [5] Dark Tea has shared stages with artists such as Michael Rault, Dougie Poole, New Love Crowd, and Ed Askew. [6] [7]
In 2018, The Fader premiered Dark Tea's forthcoming release "Angel of Night". [3] Dark Tea's music has been identified as lo-fi, indie rock, freak folk and country-psych. [3] [8] [9]
In 2020, Dark Tea was acquired by Super Jumbo.
On April 16, 2021, Canino released his second self-titled LP, Dark Tea, which featured the enigmatic songwriter backed by an assortment of acclaimed producers and over 20 session musicians. The LP was co-executive produced by guitarist Noah Kohll. [10] Videos were released for singles "Down for the Law", "Highway Mile", "Deanna", and "Finally on Time" in what some have dubbed the Dark Tea Cinematic Universe. [11]
That same year, Canino co-directed several projects for Nick Rattigan's Current Joys, including the concert film The Phantom of the Highland Park Ebell. [12]

Sam Mehran was an American-Australian musician, songwriter, and producer who co-founded the punk band Test Icicles and later formed the solo projects Matrix Metals and Outer Limits Recordings (OLR). His solo work differed substantially from Test Icicles and was often produced in a lo-fi manner. He received little critical notice in his lifetime, a Dazed Digital editor commented, however, "Mehran possessed an incomparable talent that belied his relatively low public profile."
Mia Riddle is an American indie-folk singer-songwriter born in Ventura, California. She and her eponymous six-piece band are based in Brooklyn, New York.
Mad Planet was an indie electronic rock band from Silverlake, California, consisting of Cooper Gillespie (bass/vocals), Greg Gordon and Tony Crouse. Mad Planet was formed in 2009. Their debut album, All Elephants, was released in 2010. The record garnered them a position in the CMJ Top 200 charts. In 2011 the band released an EP, Gliese 581g.

On August 27, 2013, Justin Nealis and Sean Mahon released their first album as a group, titled Tough Love, on Fool's Gold Records. Rolling Stone rated Tough Love as the 13th best dance album of 2013 and described the album as being "dance music for introverts."

Alexandra Savior McDermott is an American singer-songwriter originally from Portland, Oregon. She first came to public notice at age 17 in 2012 after being publicly lauded by Courtney Love, who saw a video of Savior performing cover songs that were uploaded on YouTube. Shortly after graduating high school in 2013, Savior pursued a music career in Los Angeles, and was signed to Columbia Records later that year, after which she began recording material with producers James Ford and Alex Turner. Her debut studio album, Belladonna of Sadness, was released on April 7, 2017, by Columbia.
Tuff Sunshine is an American rock band based in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. The band is led by Johnny Leitera, who works with several backing musicians who join him onstage and on tour as well as in the studio. They include notable artists such as Linda Pitmon bassist Turner Stough and founding member Ani Cordero, among others. Drummer Ani Cordero was a founding member and left the band amicably in 2016 to pursue a solo career and still plays occasional shows with the band. Leitera and Tuff Sunshine have shared bills with such diverse artists as Tim Rogers/You Am I, John Doe, Jonathan Richman and The Dead Boys. Leitera also plays and tours as a solo musician and has played all over the United States, the UK and Australia.
