Darren Oliver (born 1 November 1971) is an English former footballer who played as a defender. [2] [3]
He signed for Bolton as a youth trainee in the summer of 1990, working firstly under the management of Phil Neal and then Bruce Rioch.
Rioch gave him his Football League debut in October 1992 in an away game at Leyton Orient replacing the experienced David Burke as the Wanderers left-back.
Towards the end of his time at Bolton he had a short loan spell with Peterborough United, scoring the winning goal in his only appearance for them against Barnsley in the Coca-Cola Cup. [4]
Oliver spent a total of six years at Burnden Park before moving to Rochdale for £30,000 in 1993.
He later played for Altrincham, Barrow and Stafford Rangers in non-league football.

The 1995 Football League First Division play-off Final was an association football match which was played on 29 May 1995 at Wembley Stadium, London, between Bolton Wanderers and Reading. The match was to determine the second and final team to gain promotion from the Football League First Division, the second tier of English football, to the Premiership. The champions of the 1994–95 Football League First Division gained automatic promotion to the Premiership, while the teams placed from second to fifth place in the table partook in play-off semi-finals; Reading ended the season in second position while Bolton Wanderers finished third. The winners of these semi-finals competed for the final place for the 1995–96 season in the Premiership.
