Data technology has been used to manage big data sets, build solutions for data management [5] and integrate data from various sources to discover new business or analytical insights from collected information. [6]

Growing global amount of generated data (the number is forecast to reach 163 zettabytes in 2025 [7] ) determines spendings on technologies that help control data assets. The big data market is expected to reach $156.72 billion by 2026. [8] Spendings on data, including data technologies, in digital marketing reach $26.0 B in 2019 globally. [9] [10]

Data technologies are developed to help manage data generated by human or by machines, which will be 200 billion by 2020. [11] Data technologies aim to manage growing data streams, get valuable insights from data and find solutions to integrate the most important data sources for companies and organizations. Therefore, key areas for DataTech sector are:

HP Information Management Software is a software from the HP Software Division, used to organize, protect, retrieve, acquire, manage, and maintain information. The HP Software Division also offers information analytics software. The amount of data that companies have to deal with has grown tremendously over the past decade, making the management of this information more difficult. The University of California at Berkeley claims the amount of information produced globally increases by 30 percent annually. An April 2010 Information Management article cited a survey in which nearly 90 percent of businesses blame poor performance on data growth. The survey concluded that for many businesses their applications and databases are growing by 50 percent or more annually, making it difficult to manage the rapid expansion of information.

Data monetization, a form of monetization, may refer to the act of generating measurable economic benefits from available data sources (analytics). Less commonly, it may also refer to the act of monetizing data services. In the case of analytics, typically, these benefits accrue as revenue or expense savings, but may also include market share or corporate market value gains. Data monetization leverages data generated through business operations, available exogenous data or content, as well as data associated with individual actors such as that collected via electronic devices and sensors participating in the internet of things. For example, the ubiquity of the internet of things is generating location data and other data from sensors and mobile devices at an ever-increasing rate. When this data is collated against traditional databases, the value and utility of both sources of data increases, leading to tremendous potential to mine data for social good, research and discovery, and achievement of business objectives. Closely associated with data monetization are the emerging data as a service models for transactions involving data by the data item.
