David Alan Campbell (born September 3,1951) is a former professional baseball pitcher. Campbell pitched two seasons in Major League Baseball for the Atlanta Braves in 1977 and 1978. He appeared in 118 games,all but 14 in relief.
Campbell was signed by the Braves as an amateur free agent in 1974. After two and a half seasons in the minor leagues,Campbell made his major league debut on May 1,1977,against the Chicago Cubs. He would go on to finish 10th in the National League in saves that year with 13.
In 1978,Campbell finished more games than the previous season,but had just 1 save,and his ERA jumped from 3.05 to 4.80. Also,control proved to be a problem,as he issued 49 walks in 69.1 innings.
The following spring,he was traded to the Montreal Expos for infielder Pepe Frías. [1] He pitched the next three seasons for their top farm club,the Denver Bears,but never returned to the major leagues.
Philip Henry Niekro,nicknamed "Knucksie",was an American baseball pitcher who played 24 seasons in Major League Baseball,20 of them with the Milwaukee / Atlanta Braves. Niekro's 318 career victories are the most by a knuckleballer and rank 16th on MLB's all-time wins list. He won the National League Gold Glove Award five times,was selected to five All-Star teams,and led the league in victories twice and earned run average once. He was a key contributor to the Braves winning their only two division titles before 1991. Niekro was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997.
Patrick Edward Dobson,Jr. was an American right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Detroit Tigers (1967–69),San Diego Padres (1970),Baltimore Orioles (1971–72),Atlanta Braves (1973),New York Yankees (1973–75) and Cleveland Indians (1976–77). He was best known for being one of four Orioles pitchers to win 20 games in their 1971 season.
