Dave Carter (born 8 August 1947) is a British powerlifter and is a former British, European and World Powerlifting champion, competing in the 125kg deadlift and squat categories. [1]

David Thomas Carter was born in Aldershot in Hampshire. For every year between 1988 and 2007 (except for 1996 and 1998) he held the World Deadlift Record, [1] similarly holding the European Record in the same category for 1976 and 1991 to 2007. [1] [2] He was a holder of 16 British titles, including 1975 to 1998 (except 1977 to 1979, 1981 and 1987) when he held the British record for the deadlift. [3] [4] In 1994 with Brian Smith he reformed British powerlifting, setting up the properly regulated British Powerlifting Organisation. [5] [6] He is the President of the British Powerlifting Organisation (BPO) and the World Powerlifting Federation (WPF). [7]

Today, in addition to his administrative work and coaching in powerlifting, Carter is also an independent financial adviser. With his wife Phyllis he has two daughters, Deborah and Tracy. [1] He lives in his home town of Aldershot.

He is credited for the biggest raw squat and raw powerlifting total ever performed by a drug tested athlete, regardless of weight class, as well as the greatest raw deadlift by an American citizen.

Dwight Douglas Furnas was an American professional wrestler and powerlifter. He was an APF National and World Powerlifting Champion, who set multiple world records in the 275 pound weight class. As a wrestler, Furnas worked for, among other promotions, American majors World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), and World Wrestling Federation (WWF) best known for being part of the tag team The Can-Am Express with tag team partner Phil Lafon. Furnas was also a longtime mainstay of All Japan Pro Wrestling.

Chris Morgan is a British powerlifter. He is a global ambassador to the Federation of Gay Games and a ten-time world champion in his sport.

Bill Kazmaier American strongman

William Kazmaier is an American former world champion powerlifter, world champion strongman and professional wrestler. During the 1970s and 1980s, he set numerous powerlifting and strongman world records, and won two International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Championships and three World's Strongest Man titles. In the 1980s, Kazmaier became famous for his claim to be "the strongest man who ever lived" by equaling and surpassing spectacular and versatile feats of strength of famous strongmen of the 20th century. He is widely considered to be one of the all-time greatest competitors in strength competitions.


The Wilks coefficient or Wilks formula is a mathematical coefficient that can be used to measure the relative strengths of powerlifters despite the different weight classes of the lifters. Robert Wilks, CEO of Powerlifting Australia, is the author of the formula.

Donald C. Reinhoudt is an American former powerlifter and strongman. He won the IPF World Powerlifting Superheavyweight Championship four consecutive times (1973–1976), and won the World's Strongest Man in 1979.

Benedikt "Benni" Magnússon is an Icelandic strongman and powerlifter. He holds the raw deadlift world record at 460.4 kg (1,015 lb) since 2011. He also set the world record for the heaviest strongman deadlift of 461 kg (1,016 lb) in 2014, which stood until Eddie Hall lifted 462 kg (1,019 lb) the next year.

Stan "The White Rhino" Efferding is an American IFBB professional bodybuilder and a powerlifter competing in the Southern Powerlifting Federation (SPF). He held the all-time raw world powerlifting records in the 275-pound-class in the Total without knee wraps and in the Squat without knee wraps (854 lbs). Due to his enormous physical strength, regularly competing in professional powerlifting contests along his career in professional competitive bodybuilding, Efferding is often referred to as the "world's strongest bodybuilder".

Marcus Yap Zhe Mian is a Singaporean Powerlifting Coach and Powerlifter. Yap became the first Singaporean to break a powerlifting world record and win a medal at a world championship. He led the Singapore team to victory in several Asian Championships as well as coaching his younger brother, Matthew Yap, to breaking a total of four world records.

Ana Castellain Brazilian powerlifter

Ana Rosa Castellain is a Brazilian powerlifter, seven-time world champion. She became the main Brazilian athlete active in the country after being inducted into the IPF Hall of Fame. She currently resides and trains in the city of Garopaba on the coast of Santa Catarina.
