Dave MacQueen (born February 8, 1959) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. MacQueen most recently served as the head coach of Austria's Dornbirn Bulldogs.

Dornbirn Bulldogs sports club

Dornbirn Bulldogs are a professional ice hockey team in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg, Austria, who have played in the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL), the first level of ice hockey in Austria, since 2012. The club was founded in 1992 and in 2001, began play in the Austrian National League. In their 11 years in the National League, Austria's second tier league, Dornbirn celebrated two titles in 2008 and 2010.

Playing career

Prior to becoming a coach, MacQueen played seven years of professional hockey (1979–86), bouncing between the EHL, IHL, CHL, and the ACHL. MacQueen led his team in goals scored three different times: Johnstown Red Wings (1979–80), Salem Raiders (1981–82), and Virginia Raiders (1982–83).

International Hockey League (1945–2001) 1945–2001 North American ice hockey league

The International Hockey League (IHL) was a minor professional ice hockey league in the United States and Canada that operated from 1945 to 2001. The IHL served as the National Hockey League's alternate farm system to the American Hockey League (AHL). After 56 years of operation, financial instability led to the league's demise. Six of the surviving seven teams merged into the AHL in 2001.

Coaching career

He was an assistant coach with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning from 1996 to 1998. MacQueen was named the OHL's "Coach of the Year' for guiding the Erie Otters to a 45-22-4 season record during the 2000-01 season and led the Erie Otters to the 2001-02 OHL Championship. MacQueen won his 400th OHL game on January 24, 2009, moving him into 10th all time in OHL history [1]

MacQueen was relieved of his General Manager and Head Coach duties from the Sarnia Sting on February 6, 2011, [2] a position he had held since the start of the 2006–07 OHL season. Team President Larry Ciccarelli said he felt that other teams were progressing while the Sting were moving in the opposite direction. MacQueen's coaching duties were turned over to former Sting assistant coach Trevor Letowski.

Sarnia Sting

The Sarnia Sting are a junior ice hockey team based in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. They are one of the 20 teams that make up the Ontario Hockey League. They play out of the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Trevor Letowski Canadian ice hockey player

Trevor Letowski is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former professional player. Letowski played in the NHL with the Phoenix Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Carolina Hurricanes. Letowski was the head coach of the OHL's Sarnia Sting until after the 2014-15 season. Letowski is currently the head coach of the Windsor Spitfires.

MacQueen became the head coach of Dornbirner EC (the team playing in the Austrian Hockey League aka EBEL since 2012) on August 12, 2012. He remained with the club through to the completion of the 2018–19 season.

Nail Yakupov Russian professional ice hockey forward

Nail Railovich Yakupov is a Russian professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing with SKA Saint Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He was selected first overall by the Edmonton Oilers at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Yakupov grew up within the HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk junior program and moved to North America in 2010 to further his career. He joined the Sarnia Sting, a major junior team in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he played for two years before being selected in the NHL Entry Draft. Yakupov played for the Russian national junior team, winning medals in all three tournaments he participated in.

Greg Walters is a Canadian ice hockey head coach, and retired professional player. He was drafted into the National Hockey League in 1990, but spent his career playing in the minor leagues. During 12 seasons, he played 248 games in the American Hockey League, and 241 games in the International Hockey League. He later turned to coaching, and has won two Ontario Junior Hockey League Coach of the Year awards, and one Canadian Junior Hockey League Coach of the Year award. He was named head coach of the Oshawa Generals on June 11, 2018.

The Niagara IceDogs began play at their new arena, the Meridian Centre. The Ottawa 67's returned to TD Place Arena after a two-year hiatus due to a renovation. Brian Kilrea returned to coach the Ottawa 67's for one game on October 17, becoming the oldest coach in league history.

The 2015–16 OHL season was the 36th season of the Ontario Hockey League, in which twenty teams played 68 games each according to the regular season schedule, from September 2015 to March 2016. The Plymouth Whalers relocated to Flint and became the Flint Firebirds, playing at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center. The Belleville Bulls relocated to Hamilton and became the Hamilton Bulldogs, playing at FirstOntario Centre. The London Knights won the J. Ross Robertson Cup for the fourth time in franchise history, as they defeated the Niagara IceDogs in four games in the final round of the playoffs. The Knights qualified for the 2016 Memorial Cup held at the ENMAX Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta. London defeated the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 3-2 in overtime in the final game, winning the Memorial Cup for the second time in franchise history.

Sherwood "Sherry" Bassin is a Canadian ice hockey executive known primarily for 36 years of involvement in the Ontario Hockey League as a general manager, team owner and coach. Bassin successfully turned franchises around, and his teams won five J. Ross Robertson Cups, and appeared in six Memorial Cup tournaments, winning once. Bassin helped the Canadian National junior team win its first gold medal in 1982, and another in 1985. He was twice named OHL Executive of the Year and CHL Executive of the Year, and briefly worked for the Quebec Nordiques.
