Dave Zegarac (born February 15, 1979) is a Canadian punk rock musician. He was the frontman of the band Brat Attack. He became known to the public when he was criminally charged on February 6, 2022, after allegedly driving his vehicle into four protesters of a rally against vaccine mandates in Winnipeg, Canada.

History

Zegarac had been active with and booked concerts for the Winnipeg punk rock scene, and the music scene of St.John's, Newfoundland. [1] He posts under Aboriginal Musicians and is of Sioux, Cree, Irish, and Serbian background. He is a singer-songwriter and was the frontman of the Canadian punk rock bands The Brat Attack, [1] The Dead Peasants Revolt, the Black Mask Brigade and Class War Kids.

Zegarac has also released music under the name "Stitchez" or "Daveybrat" and has run the independent record label 3rd Generation Recordz since 1995. He appeared in the documentary film The Truth Is Disgusting as a former member of Grandpa's Army. [2] [3] His song lyrics deal primarily with anarchist politics. [4] Zegarac is a vegan and an Anti-racism activist.

Controversies

On February 6, 2022, Zegarac was arrested and charged with numerous offenses (including assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm) after driving his Jeep Patriot into four protesters of the local Freedom Convoy 2022 in front of the Manitoba Legislature. He was captured after a brief chase and arrested after a short fight with Winnipeg Police. [5]

Underground Operations was an independent punk rock record label based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Established in 1995, the label was originally based in Ajax, Ontario. Operated by Mark Spicoluk, former Closet Monster member and former bass player for Avril Lavigne, this label was one of the most successful independent labels in Canada. Spicoluk started the label when he was 16 years of age. Underground Operations shut down on December 2, 2016.

Those Who Sow Sorrow Shall Reap Rage is the most recent album by Canadian punk rock band Brat Attack, released in 2008. It is the band's first release on Rebel Time Records. The Brat Attack lineup for this recording is Dave Zegarac, Dustin Jackson, Dave Halcrow and Jeff Tetrault, who was a founding member of the group and appeared on their first two records, One Revolution Per Minute and Destruction Sound System. Former vocalist Chanelle Birks makes a guest appearance on the track "Merchants of Beauty," for which a video was shot. A video was also shot for the song "Spark."
