David Anderson is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in 1990s. He played for Western Suburbs, Balmain Tigers and Parramatta Eels in the NSWRL/ARL competition and for Rochdale in England.
Anderson made his first grade debut for Balmain in round 1 of the 1991 NSWRL season against Canterbury-Bankstown at Leichhardt Oval. Anderson scored a try during Western Suburbs 26-16 loss. In 1992, Anderson joined Western Suburbs and played 23 games for the club over the next two seasons. Anderson then had a stint in England with Rochdale before returning to Australia and signing with Parramatta for the 1996 ARL season. Anderson made only one appearance for Parramatta which came in round 15 against Manly-Warringah with Parramatta losing 44-0 at Brookvale Oval. [2] [3] [4]
The Western Suburbs Magpies is an Australian rugby league football club based in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in 1908, Wests, as the club is commonly referred to, was one of the nine foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia. The club, as a sole entity, departed the top-flight competition in 1999 after forming a 50–50 joint venture with Balmain Tigers to form the Wests Tigers. The club currently fields sides in the NSW State Cup, Ron Massey Cup (Opens), S.G. Ball Cup and Harold Matthews Cup competitions.
Leichhardt Oval is a rugby league and soccer stadium in Lilyfield, New South Wales, Australia. It is currently one of three home grounds for the Wests Tigers National Rugby League (NRL) team, along with Campbelltown Stadium and Western Sydney Stadium. Prior to its merger with the Western Suburbs Magpies, it was the longtime home of the Balmain Tigers, who used the ground from 1934–1994 and 1997–1999. It was named after Ludwig Leichhardt.
Mark O'Neill is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He played in Australia for the Balmain Tigers, then the Wests Tigers following the joint venture of Balmain and the Western Suburbs Magpies, and in England for the Leeds Rhinos and the Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League. O'Neill usually played as a second-row. O'Neill currently holds the NSWRL/NRL record for the most first grade games played before competing in a finals match which stands at 219 games. He is currently the General Manager of football at Parramatta Eels NRL.
Terence John Lamb, also nicknamed "Baa", is an Australian former rugby league footballer and coach. He played 350 games, with the Western Suburbs (1980–1983) and Canterbury (1984–1996).
Gary Ross Freeman is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s, and coached in the 2000s, who both captained and coached the New Zealand national team. He was arguably one of New Zealand's greatest Test halfbacks and at the time of his retirement he was the most-capped New Zealand test player and also held the record for most consecutive tests for New Zealand with 37.
