David E. Adkins is an American businessman, pastor, and former politician who served as a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives from the 29th district. Elected in November 2014, he assumed office in January 2015 and left office on December 31, 2018. [1]
Adkins served in the United States Air Force. He was later the pastor of the New Covenant Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico and operated small businesses, including a waste management company. Adkins was the chaplain of the Albuquerque Police Department. [2]
Elected to the New Mexico House of Representatives in November 2014, he assumed office in January 2015. During his tenure, Adkins was the ranking member of the House Land Grants & Cultural Affairs Committee. In 2018, Adkins was defeated for re-election by Democratic nominee Joy Garratt. [3] [4]
Stevan Edward Pearce is an American businessman and politician who served as the U.S. Representative for New Mexico's 2nd congressional district from 2003 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2019. He is a member of the Republican Party and was his party's unsuccessful nominee in the 2018 New Mexico gubernatorial election. On December 8, 2018, Pearce was elected Chair of the New Mexico Republican Party, replacing Ryan Cangiolosi. He was re-elected in December 2020.
New Mexico's 1st congressional district of the United States House of Representatives serves the central area of New Mexico, including most of Bernalillo County, all of Torrance County, and parts of Sandoval, Santa Fe and Valencia counties. It includes almost three-fourths of Albuquerque. The district has a notable Native American presence, encompassing several pueblos including the Pueblo of Laguna and Sandia Pueblo, and the Tohajiilee Navajo Reservation outside Albuquerque. The seat is currently vacant, last occupied by Democrat Deb Haaland, who was first elected in 2018. She succeeded Michelle Lujan Grisham, who retired after becoming Governor of New Mexico. Haaland vacated this seat following her confirmation by the Senate as Interior Secretary. Haaland's successor will be elected in a special election.
