The Highlanders is a New Zealand professional rugby union team based in Dunedin that compete in Super Rugby. The team was formed in 1996 to represent the lower South Island in the newly formed Super 12 competition, and includes the Otago, North Otago and Southland unions. The Highlanders take their name from the Scottish immigrants that founded the Otago, North Otago, and Southland regions in the 1840s and 1850s.
Rugby Southland is the provincial rugby union who govern the Southland region of New Zealand. Bourgoin-Jallieu is a commune in the Isère department in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in France. The city had 28,834 inhabitants in 2019 and lies 35 kilometres east-southeast of Lyon. It was formed by the merger of the former communes Bourgoin and Jallieu in 1965.
Kevin Senio is a former New Zealand rugby union professional who most recently played professionally for ASM Clermont Auvergne. He is currently the head coach of Ponsonby Rugby club, based in Auckland, New Zealand. Senio is also a former All Black, making his debut after coming on for Piri Weepu against Australia in New Zealand's 34–24 win in the final match of the 2005 Tri Nations Series and is currently a Junior All Black. That is Senio's only test thus far into his career. During his time at Bay of Plenty, Senio played in a tour match against the British & Irish Lions and was later called into the Junior All Blacks tour of Australia against Australia A.

Kees Junior Meeuws is a New Zealand former rugby union prop and former assistant coach of the Highlanders in the Super Rugby competition, and also a real estate agent by trade and a painter by education. Meeuws played 42 tests for the All Blacks between 1998 and 2004, scoring 10 test tries. He played provincial rugby for Otago and Auckland, and played for the Blues in the Super 12. In 2004, Meeuws left New Zealand to take up a contract with French club Castres Olympique, and in 2006 he left Castres for Agen after a falling-out with Castres coach Laurent Seigne. Following Agen's relegation after the 2006–07 season, Meeuws left Agen and returned to Castres, signing a two-year contract with the club. In May 2008, it was announced that Meeuws would be joining the Scarlets on a two-year deal. However, shortly into his Scarlets career, he suffered a long-term injury. In July 2009, having made just 12 appearances and scored 1 try, his contract with the Scarlets was cancelled by mutual consent. He returned to Otago in 2010 to play in the ITM Cup.
Josh Blackie is a former New Zealand rugby union player who notably played for Otago in the National Provincial Championship and the Highlanders in Super Rugby. He also had a long stint for the Kobelco Steelers in Japan and played a season with the Blues in 2008. His position of choice was flanker.
Norman Rangi Berryman was a New Zealand rugby union player who played as a winger and centre. He played one Test for the All Blacks, and represented Northland, the Crusaders and the Chiefs in New Zealand. In France, he played for Castres Olympique and CS Bourgoin-Jallieu.
John Senio is a Samoan rugby union footballer. He last played for French club FC Grenoble in the Pro D2. Prior to signing with Grenoble he played for Bourgoin ASM Clermont Auvergne, Edinburgh Rugby in the Celtic League and the New Zealand franchise the Blues in the Super 14. He has also played for the Samoan national team, and was a member of their 2003 Rugby World Cup squad. His brothers Kevin Senio and Dimitri Senio are also professional rugby players. He was a CS Bourgoin-Jallieu rugby player for the 2009/2010 season.
Mickaël Forest is a French rugby union footballer. Forest plays scrum-half for CS Bourgoin-Jallieu in France's Top 14 championship. His professional career started with CA Brive in 1999. He played with them for two years that included ten Challenge Cup matches. After Brive were relegated to Pro D2 for the 2001/2002 season Forest moved to Bourgoin. With Bourgoin Forrest played in the final of the 2003 Challenge Yves du Manoir, and has played in 18 Heineken Cup matches. He was selected for France in their 2007 Tour to New Zealand. He made his Test debut against the All Blacks on 2 June 2007 when he came on as a substitute in the 74th minute. He made his second appearance the following week, this time coming on in the 67th minute.
William Charles Aroyn Walker is a former New Zealand rugby union footballer. He played for Gloucester and Worcester Warriors in the Guinness Premiership. He has also played for the New Zealand Maori.
Yann David is a French professional rugby union centre and winger currently playing for Castres Olympique in the Top 14. He played two seasons for Bourgoin-Jallieu before joining the toulousians. He is 1.85m tall and weighs 105 kg. David studied at the private school St.Joseph Bourgoin-Jallieu. He has also participated for Dieux du Stade in 2007. He played 30 matches for Bourgoin scoring 6 tries before joining Toulouse in 2009. In 2010 he was a replacement for the final as Toulouse won the Heineken Cup.
