David Sobin

David Sobin is a well known American inventor, and the CEO of BAMnet Corporation, the parent company of ReplayLocker. A 24-year AT&T Executive, he led the team which created the first DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) product in the early 1980s and deployed it globally. While at Bell Labs, he was awarded a patent for his invention of a fiber optic backplane. [1] He left AT&T/Lucent in 1996 to found his own DSL company, which was subsequently sold for approximately $50M in 1998. He holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

Juliana Freire de Lima e Silva is a Brazilian computer scientist who works as a professor of computer science and engineering at the New York University. She is known for her research in information visualization, data provenance, and computerized assistance for scientific reproducibility.

James J. Wood was an engineer who contributed to the development of lockmaking, the development of the submarine, the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, and the design of the modern refrigerator. He fabricated the steel cables for the Brooklyn Bridge, the first suspension bridge. These same cables changed the skylines of every major city by making cable-lift elevators possible. He also designed the electrics of the internal combustion engine for John Holland’s submarine and the first modern refrigerator. Some of his innovations can be found in the A/C generator, electric motors, and transformer. He held over 240 patents. He graduated from the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute as a mechanical engineer.

Herman Fialkov was an American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and philanthropist. He is best known for co-founding the General Transistor Corp. in 1954, a technology company that became a pioneer of microchips. He graduated from New York University Tandon School of Engineering, formerly known as the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.

Michael H. Kappaz was the Chairman and CEO of K&M Engineering and Consulting. He was also a vice president at Bechtel. He earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn and an MBA from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He completed post-graduate work at Stanford University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Claudio Silva is a Brazilian American computer scientist and data scientist. He is a professor of computer science and engineering at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering, the head of disciplines at the NYU Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) and affiliate faculty member at NYU's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. He co-developed the open-source data-exploration system VisTrails with his wife Juliana Freire and many other collaborators. He is a former chair of the executive committee for the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Visualization and Graphics.
