Mariano Gámir Ulíbarri was a Spanish general who fought on the Republican side during the Spanish Civil War (1936–39). He was Basque,a career soldier,and had no political affiliation. He commanded a brigade on the Aragon front in the early months of the war,then was assigned to command the Basque forces in May 1937. He retreated westward from Basque country in June 1937 when attacked by greatly superior Nationalist forces. Soon after he was given command of the Army of the North,and tried to defend Santander. When this fell,he moved to Asturias,where he was replaced as commander. He escaped,returned to Valencia,and was briefly given command of a brigade,but was moved to a less responsible post due to doubts about his ability. After the war he lived in exile in France,where he wrote his memoirs,before being allowed to return to Spain a few years before his death.
Juan de Ulibarrí or Uribarrí (1670-1716) was a Spanish or Criollo soldier and explorer who lived in New Mexico. In 1706 he led an expedition to El Cuartelejo on the Great Plains of western Kansas and eastern Colorado. Ulibarrí's diary survives and is an important source for the history of Spanish exploration of the Great Plains and relationships with the Apache and Pueblo Indians. The purpose of Ulibarrí's expedition was to find and escort back to New Mexico about 60 people from Picuris Pueblo who had earlier fled Spanish rule in New Mexico and established communities on the Great Plains. The Cuartelejo Ruins in Kansas are a remnant of the Pueblos who lived on the plains.

Paul Ulibarri is an American professional disc golfer from Show Low,Arizona. In 2006,he won the PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships and began playing professionally the following season. As of June 2020,Ulibarri has competed in over 500 PDGA sanctioned events and has 107 career tournament wins. His career earnings total over $304,000 making him the 7th highest earner in PDGA history. Ulibarri is currently the Discraft Team Captain and a member of the commentary team for Jomez Productions.
