Davide Scala (born 2 January 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Italy.
Scala, a right-handed player from Bologna, turned professional in 1990.
At the 1997 Italian Open, a top-tier tournament now known as the Rome Masters, Scala upset the world number 18 Tim Henman, en route to the third round. [1] Playing as a qualifier, he was the only Italian to make it past the first round of the tournament. [2]
Other noted performances include a win over American veteran Patrick McEnroe at the Washington Classic and a quarter-finals appearance at the Bournemouth International, both in 1997. [3]
He had a career-best ranking of 117 in the world.
Richard Peter Stanislav Krajicek is a Dutch former professional tennis player. In 1996, he won the men's singles title at Wimbledon, and remains the only Dutch male player to have won a major singles title. In the quarterfinals of that tournament, he delivered Pete Sampras's only defeat at Wimbledon between 1993 and 2000. Krajicek reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 4 in March 1999. Since 2004, he has been the tournament director of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam. He is also the author of various sports books.
Timothy Henry Henman is a British former professional tennis player. Henman played a serve-and-volley style of tennis. He was the first British man to reach the singles semifinals of Wimbledon since Roger Taylor in the 1970s. Henman reached six major semifinals and won 15 career ATP Tour titles, including the 2003 Paris Masters. He also earned a 40–14 win-loss record with the Great Britain Davis Cup team.
Gregory Rusedski is a British-Canadian former professional tennis player. He was the British No. 1 in 1997, 1999 and 2006, and reached the ATP ranking of world No. 4 for periods from 6 October 1997 to 12 October 1997 and from 25 May 1998 to 21 June 1998.

Goran Ivanišević defeated Patrick Rafter in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–3, 2–6, 9–7 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2001 Wimbledon Championships. It was his first and only major title. Ivanišević became the first unseeded player to win the title since Boris Becker in 1985, and the first wild card to win a major. His ranking improved by 109 places following the win, from world No. 125 to world No. 16. Ivanišević had reached the Wimbledon final three times before but lost each time. The final was held on the third Monday of the event in front of a boisterous crowd, after Ivanišević's semifinal against Tim Henman took three days to complete due to rain.
Lleyton Hewitt defeated David Nalbandian in the final, 6–1, 6–3, 6–2 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2002 Wimbledon Championships. It was his second major title, after the 2001 US Open. Hewitt became the first Australian to win the title since Pat Cash in 1987.

Massú became the only man to win both the singles and men's doubles gold medals at the same Olympic Games. The two medals were Chile's first in men's singles, and Massú's gold plus the Chileans' doubles gold remain the only two gold medals for Chile at the Olympics.

It was the 13th edition of the tournament and was held from 9 June through 15 June 1997. Second-seeded Félix Mantilla won the singles title.
