Daylen Jwuan Kountz (born February 26, 2000) is an American professional basketball player for Cholet Basket of the French LNB Pro A. He played college basketball for the Colorado Buffaloes and the Northern Colorado Bears, where he became one of the top scorers in the Big Sky Conference.
Kountz grew up in Denver, Colorado, and attended East High School under longtime head coach Rudy Carey, who also coached future NBA All-Star Chauncey Billups. [1] As a senior, he emerged as one of the best high-school players in Colorado, averaging 24 points per game and drawing state-wide attention. [2]
Kountz began his college career at University of Colorado under head coach Tad Boyle. [3] After Kountz transferred, Boyle commented: *"I think the world of Daylen. He's talented and he found a place where he can be the man."* [4]
He transferred to Northern Colorado in 2020, where he quickly became the team's primary scoring option. Head coach Steve Smiley said upon his arrival: *"Securing the commitment of Daylen Kountz is a big deal... his ability to create and finish at the rim and knock down tough shots fits our culture."* [5]
In 2021–22, he posted career-high averages of 21.3 points per game on 51% shooting. [6] He played alongside future NBA first-round pick Dalton Knecht and guard Jonah Radebaugh.
Kountz began his professional career in Montenegro with KK Podgorica in 2023.
In 2024, he joined Egis Körmend in the Hungarian NB I/A, where he quickly became one of the league's top scorers, averaging 22 points per game on 46% from three-point range. [7] Hungarian media noted that Kountz and teammate Reaudale Williams "dictated Körmend's offense and produced 60–70% of the team's points." [8]
Kountz signed with Cholet Basket in July 2025. [9] Former NBA player Andre Roberson—who briefly played for Cholet in 2024 and shared the floor with Kountz at The Basketball Tournament—recommended him to the club. [10]
He quickly delivered strong performances in the Basketball Champions League. He scored **13 points on 3/4 shooting from three** in a road win at Hapoel Holon. [11] He later added **11 points and 5 assists in the first half** of a dominant win over Bursaspor (109–77). [12]
