History

The company was founded by Claud Cecil Gurney in 1986, in the basement of his family's home. [1] [2] The company takes its name from the medieval French spelling of the Gurney family name. [1] Gurney began the company after touring Chinese factories that specialized in hand-painting. [3]

de Gournay's wallpapers are produced mainly in China, at its Shanghai studio. [4] The company has worked with designers such as India Mahdavi, John Stefanidis, Michael S. Smith, Kate Moss and Martyn Lawrence Bullard to create custom wallpaper designs. [5] [6] [7]

He is renowned as the architect of several country houses.

Kelly Wearstler American designer (born 1967)

Kelly Wearstler is an American designer. She founded her own design firm Kelly Wearstler Interior Design in the mid-1990s, serving mainly the hotel industry, and now designs across high-end residential, commercial, retail and hospitality spaces. Her designs for the Viceroy hotel chain in the early 2000s have been noted for their influence on the design industry. She has designed properties for clients such as Gwen Stefani, Cameron Diaz and Stacey Snider, and served as a judge on all episodes of Bravo's Top Design reality contest in 2007 and 2008.

Christopher John Wilkinson was a British architect and co-founder of the architecture firm WilkinsonEyre. He was known for his techno-centric designs and execution of projects ranging from office spaces, factory floors, skyscrapers to botanical gardens. Some of his projects included the Magna Science Adventure Centre, Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Guangzhou International Finance Center, and the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

Lucienne Day British textile designer

Désirée Lucienne Lisbeth Dulcie Day OBE RDI FCSD was one of the most influential British textile designers of the 1950s and 1960s. She was also active in other fields, such as wallpapers, ceramics and carpets.

Orla Kiely, OBE is an Irish fashion designer based in London. She began her career designing hats, and moved on to design work on handbags and a variety of other items including kitchenware and cars. She received a master's degree from the Royal College of Art. She worked with several companies before setting up her own business.

F. Schumacher & Co. is a privately held company based in New York City and Fort Mill, South Carolina, that designs products for the interior design industry in the United States. Established in 1889 by Frederic Schumacher, F. Schumacher & Co. is a fifth generation business and the only supplier of decorative textiles from the 19th century still privately owned and managed by direct descendants of its founder. The company sells fabric, wall covering, trimming, floorcovering, finished goods, paint, as well as print media, social and digital platforms under five brands, Schumacher, Patterson Flynn Martin, Backdrop, Freddie and Frederic. F. Schumacher & Co. currently maintains 18 showrooms in several countries and sells to the interior design trade.

Leather was used to cover and decorate sections of walls in the houses of the rich, and some public buildings. Leather is pliable and could be decorated in various ways.

William Morris wallpaper designs Interior Design

The British literary figure and designer William Morris (1834-1896), a founder of the British Arts and Crafts Movement, was especially known for his wallpaper designs. These were created for the firm he founded with his partners in 1861, Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Company, and later for Morris and Company. He created fifty different block-printed wallpapers, all with intricate, stylised patterns based on nature, particularly upon the native flowers and plants of Britain. His wallpapers and textile designs had a major effect on British interior designs, and then upon the subsequent Art Nouveau movement in Europe and the United States.
