Decoder was an American post-hardcore band formed in 2010 in Florida. The group consisted of former members of the bands Versa, Polyenso, and Of Machines. Decoder were signed to Rise Records and released one album. The group performed mellow and slow tempoed post-rock and ambient-influenced instrumentals coupled with screamed vocals and heavy percussion.

On March 1, 2012, the band changed their name from Decoder to Lead Hands, settling a lawsuit of the group's original name due to a band from New Jersey of the same name. However, shortly after the name change to Lead Hands, the band disbanded.

History

Inception and signing to Rise Records (2010)

Decoder was an idea that came about when drummer Brent Guistwite, formerly of Of Machines, and Jack Burns, formerly of Oceana parted ways with their respective bands. They had the style and concept for the music decided before they approached Keith Jones, formerly of Oceana, and Spencer Pearson, formerly of VersaEmerge, to be the band's vocalists, and both accepted. Bassist Bryce Sipes joined shortly after the recording of the band's demo for the song "Dreamwalker". On August 24, 2010, the band announced their signing to Rise Records on through their Facebook page, [1] and entered the studio with rock producer Matt Malpass on August 28, 2010. [2] When asked in an interview with Jake Denning about signing to Rise, Guistwite answered saying that "Jack [Burns] and I had been jamming together for awhile and we sent Craig [Ericson, Rise Records founder] some stuff we had been working on and he essentially sent [Decoder] a contract". [3] [4] The band's second guitarist, Anthony Sepe, joined on December 30, 2010. [5]

Self-titled album (2011–2012)

Decoder's debut self-titled album, which was produced by Matt Malpass, was released through Rise Records on January 17, 2011, to positive reviews. [6] [7] The album debuted at number 44 on Billboard Top Heatseekers. [8] The band's first tour was in support of Emarosa, Chiodos, and Go Radio, beginning on February 15, 2011. [9] On February 7, 2011, Decoder posted a teaser for their upcoming music video for the song "Believers", [10] and finished another tour dubbed "The Rise Record Tour" with Memphis May Fire, Ten After Two and That's Outrageous!. [11] The music video for "Believers" was released on May 13, 2011. [12] The band also had ideas and planning for their second album by the end of the year and according to Keith Jones the album would be more aggressive than the debut.

Name change and break up (2012–2013)

By early 2012, Anthony Sepe left to join Memphis May Fire and Spencer Pearson left on January 15 due to many issues regarding him with the band. Fans quickly became aware their departures evident from public announcements at live performances along with Twitter posts. Short weeks later, bass player, Bryce Sipes also left the band on February 5 due to his distaste with the music industry. [13] On March 1, 2012, the band revealed that Liam Thomas was added to the group on bass guitar and clean vocals, replacing the positions of both Pearson and Sipes. They had also inducted a second guitarist by the name of Vinny Capitani and changed the band's name to Lead Hands due to a lawsuit settling over a band of the same name from New Jersey. [14]

The name is about fighting through negative/bad things. We didn't want members to leave, or to lose a lawsuit but it happened, we could have packed up shop like most bands do but we decided to fight through this. Keith Jones left the band to pursue a solo acoustic career in June and then on the first of July, Lead Hands officially disbanded. The group did not release any material or ever perform live under the Lead Hands name. Guitarist Jack Burns was sued and faced criminal charges of $3,400 along with a possible prison sentence of three years due to financial debt ensued from a company that issued merchandise for Decoder. Taking Back Sunday is the fifth studio album by American rock band Taking Back Sunday. After returning home from touring the Soundwave festival in February and March 2010, guitarist Matthew Fazzi and bassist Matthew Rubano left the group. The band currently consists of lead guitarist Kellen McGregor, lead vocalist Matty Mullins, bassist Cory Elder, and drummer Jake Garland. Formed in 2006, they have released six studio albums and two EPs to date. Their fourth album, Unconditional, debuted at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200 and atop the Alternative Albums chart.

After Carlile's departure, the band continued to pursue creating music with Pauley as the band's bassist and lead vocalist.

PMtoday was a progressive post-hardcore band from Jacksonville, Arkansas, formerly signed to Rise Records. They released two EPs as well as two full-length albums, And Then the Hurricane in 2007 and In Medias Res in 2010. The band consisted of brothers Connor, Ryan, and Cuinn Brogan, as well as Jerrod Morgan.

Woe, Is Me

Woe, Is Me was an American metalcore band from Atlanta, Georgia. Formed in 2009, the group was signed to Rise Records and its subsidiary, Velocity Records. Their debut album, Numbers, was released on August 31, 2010 and charted at number 16 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. Due to many lineup changes and conflicts, the only original member who remained in the band through its entire run was guitarist Kevin Hanson. The band broke up in September 2013.

Downtown Battle Mountain II is the fourth studio album by American rock band Dance Gavin Dance, released on March 8, 2011, on Rise Records. The album is a non-direct sequel to the band's full-length debut studio album, Downtown Battle Mountain (2007), and sees the return of original members, vocalists Jonny Craig and Jon Mess, and bass guitarist Eric Lodge. It also serves as a follow-up to the band's third studio album, Happiness (2009) and was produced by Kris Crummett. The album is the group's second studio album, and third and final release overall, to feature Jonny Craig upon rejoining the band in 2010. Craig later departed from the line-up in August 2012. Upon its release, the album debuted at No. 82 on the Billboard 200 while the Hot Topic deluxe version debuted at No. 190 on the Billboard 200 in the same week.

Their debut album, Monoculture, was released on Tooth & Nail Records in the summer of 2011 and was produced by Mike Sapone. The band released their second album, Headswell, in October 2013 through No Sleep Records.

Challenger is the third full-length album by American metalcore band Memphis May Fire which was released June 26, 2012 via Rise Records. The band released the first single, "Prove Me Right," on May 24. They also released the 5th track on the album, "Vices," on June 13 as the second single from the album. On June 18, all of the songs were uploaded to YouTube on the Rise Records page. The album debuted at number 16 on the Billboard 200, selling more than 18,000 copies in its first week.

Collider is the fourth studio album by American rock band Cartel. In 2008 Cartel left Epic to sign with Wind-Up. Following this the group released Cycles (2009). Bassist Jeff Lett left to focus on school, and the band parted ways with Wind-Up. In October 2011 the group self-released In Stereo. The band called the idea of self-releasing music as "experiment[al]". Following a tour with Set Your Goals in March and April 2012 the group started writing new material. In August, the band started recording, and they finished in January 2013. The album was produced by vocalist Will Pugh and guitarist Joseph Pepper. After making a few songs available for streaming, the album was self-released on March 26, 2013. It charted at number 141 on the Billboard 200 chart. To support the album, the band toured the U.S. and the UK alongside New Found Glory, State Champs, Kids in Glass Houses and Mayday Parade.

State Champs is an American rock band from Albany, New York, formed in 2010. They are currently signed to Pure Noise Records and have released three EPs and three full-length albums. They released an acoustic EP titled The Acoustic Things in October 2014 and their second full-length album Around the World and Back one year later, in October 2015. In May 2017, they released a deluxe version of their album Around the World and Back, along with a DVD of footage from their last few tours. Their 2013 full-length, The Finer Things, debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Their third album, Living Proof, was released on June 15, 2018.

Thats Outrageous!

That's Outrageous! was an American post-hardcore band from Poughkeepsie, New York, formed in the winter of 2010. They were signed to Rise Records in March 2011, shortly after posting two self-produced demos on PureVolume. The band released two full-length albums before disbanding in 2013. Despite releasing two albums, they never made a music video.

Tilian Pearson, also known mononymously as Tilian, is an American singer, songwriter, musician and record producer born in Clearwater, Florida. He is the clean vocalist in American post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance. Pearson began his music career as the lead vocalist and guitarist in American progressive rock band Tides of Man, releasing an extended play and two studio albums before departing in 2010.
