DeeRonn Booker is an American professional ten-pin bowler. On March 31, 2024, Booker became the third African American bowler to win a major title on the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour. [2]

Background

Originally from Pomona, California, [3] Booker lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico [2] where he is the pro shop manager of the Starlight Bowling Center located inside the Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel. [3]

In 2009, Booker appeared on The Price Is Right television show, winning the showcase showdown. [2]

Career

     Yes, I'm a little bit darker, but I'm still a person. I want others just to see me as a person, not to see me as a Black individual. I want them to see me as a person and say, "That guy can bowl. That guy won a title. That guy made the show." ... I'm hoping that what I'm doing is touching other people and it's helping others get to wherever they want to go in this game and in life in general.

Booker won the doubles Eagle at the July 2023 USBC Open Championships, and during January 2023's Team USA Trials Booker led the first round of qualifying. [4] From 2018 through 2023, Booker cashed in 13 of 36 PBA events. [1]

On March 31, 2024, in his second year as a full-time professional bowler [3] and in his PBA Tour television debut, [4] Booker won the 2024 USBC Masters tournament held at Suncoast Bowling Center in Las Vegas. [2] This, his first tour title, was in a major PBA national tournament. [2] He qualified 58th out of 465 players in the 64-player double-elimination phase, [3] but won six consecutive three-game total pinfall matches to earn the No. 1 seed position for the stepladder final. [5] He won the championship game and received the $100,000 first prize. [2]

Booker thus became the third African American man to win a title and major on the PBA Tour, joining George Branham III (1993) and Gary Faulkner Jr. (2015). [3]

Booker's "strike song" during the televised March 2024 Masters broadcast was the Price is Right theme song, a reference to his 2009 appearance on that TV show. [2]

Walter Ray Williams Jr. is an American professional bowler and competitive horseshoes pitcher. He currently holds the record for all-time standard PBA Tour career titles (47), and total PBA earnings. He is a seven-time PBA Player of the Year, and won at least one PBA Tour title in a record 17 consecutive seasons. He starred in the ten-pin bowling sports documentary A League of Ordinary Gentlemen. The USBC Masters is a championship ten-pin bowling event conducted by the United States Bowling Congress. The Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) began recognizing it as a title event in 1998, and it was designated one of the four majors in 2000. A PBA rule change in 2008 retroactively awarded a PBA title to any Masters winners prior to 1998 who were PBA members at the time of the victory.

The PBA Tour is the major professional tour for ten-pin bowling, operated by the Professional Bowlers Association. Headquartered in Mechanicsville, Virginia, over 3,000 members worldwide make up the PBA. While most of the PBA members are Regional professionals, a small percentage of the bowling membership competes at the national and international level, forming the PBA Tour. Founded in 1958, the PBA Tour has been in continuous operation since the inaugural 1959 season.

Delmas Perry "Del" Ballard Jr. is a professional ten-pin bowler and member of the Professional Bowlers Association. He was a 2009 inductee into the PBA Hall of Fame, and a 2011 inductee into the USBC Hall of Fame. Ballard is the husband of top female bowler Carolyn Dorin-Ballard with whom he has one daughter. The Ballard family now resides in North Richland Hills, Texas. He is also the brother-in-law of another top female bowler, Cathy Dorin-Lizzi.

Doug Kent is a right-handed American professional ten-pin bowler, a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), and a PBA and USBC Hall of Famer. In the 2006–07 season, Kent became just the sixth bowler in PBA history to win two major championships in one tour year as he captured titles in the USBC Masters and Denny's PBA World Championship. For his efforts, he was voted the Chris Schenkel PBA Player of the Year and received a four-year exemption for PBA Tour events.

Mike Scroggins is a left-handed professional ten-pin bowler and member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), having joined in 1989. He resides in Amarillo, TX. He has won eight PBA Tour titles in his career, including two majors. He won the USBC Masters in 2005 and the Lumber Liquidators 66th U.S. Open in 2009. He has 39 career PBA 300 games, and stands at over $1.45 million in career PBA earnings following the 2017 PBA50 season. He also has three PBA50 Tour titles. Scroggins was elected to the PBA Hall of Fame in 2016, and was officially inducted with the 2017 class.

Michael Todd Fagan is an American former professional bowler on the PBA Tour. He has also participated in World Bowling Tour (WBT) and European Bowling Tour (EBT) events, and as a member of Team USA in international competitions. Known for his high backswing, he was given the nickname "King of Swing". He has a high RPM rate, but also has a smooth release, so his style can be classified as either a cranker or a power stroker.

Anthony Walter Simonsen is an American professional ten-pin bowler. He has been a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) since 2014. Simonsen became known in bowling fan circles early in the 2016 season, when he earned the distinction as the youngest player in history to win a PBA major championship. He is now the youngest player in history to own five major PBA Tour titles. He uses the two-handed shovel-style delivery with a dominant right hand. At age 25, Simonsen eclipsed $1 million in career PBA earnings during the 2022 season. Simonsen has also bowled internationally as a multi-year member of Team USA.

Tom Hess is a right-handed American professional bowler from Urbandale, Iowa, and is a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). He now bowls out of Granger, Iowa. Hess is a member of the PBA Hall of Fame in the Veterans/Senior category.

Andrew Anderson of Holly, Michigan is a right-handed American professional ten-pin bowler known for winning the 2018 USBC Masters. He competes in events on the PBA Tour and in global events as a member of Team USA. In his second full season on the PBA Tour (2018), Anderson won the Chris Schenkel PBA Player of the Year Award.

Thomas Larsen is a Danish professional ten-pin bowler competing on the PBA Tour, World Bowling Tour and European Bowling Tour. He has won three titles on the PBA Tour and five titles on the EBT, having been the EBT rankings winner in 2014. He represented Europe at the 2020 and 2021 Weber Cup events.

Adam "A. J." Johnson is an American professional bowler from Oswego, Illinois. He has been a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) since 2015. He won his first PBA Tour title in 2023. He has also been a multi-year member of Team USA, and is on the 2024 team.

Harry Monroe Smith, nicknamed "Tiger", was a right-handed American ten-pin bowler and charter member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). Smith won 12 PBA Tour titles, including two major championships. He is a member of the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame.
