Def P & Beatbusters is a Dutch music group consisting of rapper Def P of the Amsterdam old-school hip-hop band Osdorp Posse and ska band Beatbusters from the rural Betuwe region of the Netherlands.
Def P started his solo career in 1999 with the album Cryptokilostijl. During a concert at Lowlands he was accompanied by several musicians from Beatbusters and they already discussed whether Dutch rap, ska and reggae could be combined and in September 1999 they performed four concerts in Italy together. [1] They decide to call the combination of the two styles "Skank-hop." Since both groups had their own label (Ramp Records and Boombax Music respectively) it was decided to put the combination at EMI.
In the spring of 2001 the first single was launched, called "Stad & Land" (City and country), to indicate that the music was the product of an urban rapper and a rural ska band. The single was moderately successful, but it did not chart. The single was not the band's priority, either, since it was meant as an introduction to a tour program. In the autumn of 2001 the album Aangenaam (=Pleasant [2] ) was released, which was produced by Frans Hendriks in Studio Zeezicht. From then on the number of bookings for performances increased and resulted in an extensive 18-month tour.
The record label EMI saw commercial interest in further promoting the album given the success of the tour and released the single "Bubbelbad" (=Bubblebath). [3] This song was a parody on the existing pop culture of all looks and no contents, however it is rumored that the extensive list of female singers (Vengaboys, TLC, Jennifer Lopez, All Saints, Cindy Crawford, Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, etc. [4] ) featured in the song is also a personal preference of Def P. The song became a hit and peaked at #11 [5] in the Top 40.
Because of this hit Def P & Beatbusters was booked on the prestigious Pinkpop festival and many other festivals like Lowlands, Bospop and Uitmarkt followed. In the June 2002 a live double CD from the Pinkpop festival was released called "Wrijving" (=Friction) and a videoclip was made to promote the single.
In December 2002 the band stopped performing after 85 shows with a last sold-out concert and has gone its separate way again with Beatbusters and Osdorp Posse respectively. In 2008 they started performing together again, after some loose collaborations, which resulted in the 2011 album Hard op Weg. [6]

Dutch hip hop or Nederhop ("Netherhop") is hip hop / rap music created by Dutch speaking musicians in the Netherlands and Flanders (Belgium). Although the first Dutch speaking rappers in Europe typically worked in English, this began to change after 1986, at first in an underground scene. The Osdorp Posse were the first to record and release Dutch language hip hop singles, from around 1990, but it took until 1995 for a Dutch language rap single to achieve a main chart top ten hit: Spraakwater by Extince.
Doe Maar was a Dutch pop band that combined punk, ska, and reggae influences. Formed in 1978, they broke up in 1984, reunited in 2000, and remained sporadically active from then until 2021, when their frontman, Henny Vrienten, died. They are considered to be one of the most successful pop bands in Dutch history. The name Doe maar translates as "go ahead" or "just do it". Throughout their career, the band released five studio albums, four live albums, ten compilations, and numerous singles.
Racoon are a Dutch rock band, formed in 1997. Their first big appearance was at the 1999 Noorderslagfestival. The first album, Till Monkeys Fly, appeared in January 2000, produced by Michael Schoots. The first single, "Feel Like Flying", became a hit and got a lot of airplay on the Dutch radio station 3FM. The band's biggest hit so far came in 2005, when its single "Love You More" reached number three on the Dutch music charts.
The Netherlands has multiple musical traditions. Contemporary Dutch popular music is heavily influenced by music styles that emerged in the 1950s, in the United Kingdom and United States. The style is sung in both Dutch and English. Some of the latter exponents, such as Golden Earring and Shocking Blue, have attained worldwide fame.
A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise, is an annual three-day music and performing arts festival, held in the Netherlands. The festival is held 68 kilometres (42 mi) east of Amsterdam in Biddinghuizen, at Spijk en Bremerberg, which is adjacent to Walibi Holland.
Heideroosjes, are a Dutch punk rock band from Horst aan de Maas. The band are known for their energetic shows and songs with lyrics mostly in Dutch and English, and a few songs in German and Limburgish. The band, formed in 1989, consisted of Marco Roelofs (vocals/guitar), Frank Kleuskens (guitar), Fred Houben (bass) and Igor Hobus (percussion). This lineup never changed.
Nembrionic was a Dutch death metal band. They were formed in 1991 under the name Nembrionic Hammerdeath as a black metal band; they changed their name to Nembrionic in 1993. The band released three albums on Displeased Records and another together with Osdorp Posse. They split up in 1999.
Gerrit-Jan Mulder, known professionally as Brainpower, is a Dutch rapper. Born in Belgium, he grew up in the Netherlands. Since 1990, he has released six studio albums.
Green Lizard is a band from Tilburg, Netherlands that plays rock and roll, with influences from grunge, punk rock, hard rock and metal.
Henny Vrienten was a Dutch musician best known as the singer and bassist of the popular 1980s ska pop band Doe Maar. He also composed television and film scores.
The Osdorp Posse, founded in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1989, was one of the first groups to make rap music in Dutch. All four members are related to each other. Influenced by gangsta rap, they made a name for themselves by combining the music of hardcore hip hop with Dutch lyrics featuring literal translations of American slang. Initially appreciated only in the Dutch underground scene, they achieved commercial success and exerted great influence on the Dutch hip hop scene.
Gotcha! is a Dutch funk band founded in 1989; their music, a mixture of sixties-trip-rock with funk and hip-hop, is influenced by George Clinton.
Pete Philly & Perquisite is a hip hop duo from Amsterdam, Netherlands consisting of Pedro Philip Monzón as the MC/vocalist and Pieter "Perquisite" Perquin as the cellist, producer and composer of all the music. Their music is best described as hip hop with influences from jazz, broken beat and soul. They usually performed live together with DJ PCM, Remco Keijzer on saxophone, EWI and flute, Kasper Kalf on double-bass and Ruben Hein on keys.
Krezip is a Dutch pop, rock, and alternative music band from Tilburg, Netherlands, formed in 1997. Krezip's members formed a cover band while in high school, and were still remarkably young when they broke through, playing all original songs, at the nationally televised Pinkpop festival in 2000.
European hip hop is hip hop music created by European musicians. Hip hop is a Great style of music developed by African American and Caribbean communities in the United States during the mid-1970s, and became a large part of modern pop culture during the 1980s. Due to this success, it has gained worldwide popularity, especially in Europe where many diverse and unique styles of hip hop have been created. This diversity is especially apparent in the forms of hip hop music and culture emanating from settler communities from Europe's former colonies and peripheries.
Caesar was a Dutch indie rock trio from Amsterdam, consisting of Roald van Oosten, Marit de Loos and Sem Bakker. The band was founded in 1994. Caesar released four studio albums, plus one retrospective release in 2006, Before My Band Explodes. The band was dissolved in 2008.

Out of Tune is a Polish dance-punk and indie rock band. Their music combines elements of rock, pop and electro. The band was formed in Warsaw in 2005 by a bass player and vocalist Eryk Sarniak, guitarist Maciek Sobczyński and drummer Michał Witkowski. After a year, a band joined Mateusz Gągol, who plays keyboards, guitar, laptop and backing vocals.
Claw Boys Claw are a Dutch band, formed in Amsterdam. The core members of the band are Peter te Bos (vocals) and John Cameron (guitar). After some years of inactivity, the band started playing live again in 2007.
Kraak & Smaak is a musical production trio from the town of Leiden, Netherlands, consisting of Oscar de Jong, Mark Kneppers and Wim Plug. The three began recording in 2003. Their first album, titled Boogie Angst, was released in the UK 2006, and they began performing at music festivals and at clubs in the US and UK. Their songs were played on the radio and were used in television shows. Their second album, released in 2008, was titled Plastic People. They won an EBBA. Their third album, Electric Hustle, was released in 2011.
